We have to grind out wins against the bad teams. This team needs to play some sustained excellent baseball if they want to get to the post season.

The good news is the SOX WIN.

The bad news is the BP will be much weaker tomorrow.

I'm just glad it worked today. At this point I'll take the W's where I can find them.

Workman for closer. Brought back memories of Kimbrel
At least Kimbrel had games where he just came in and destroyed the opposing batters. In 2017, he did that most of the time.

LOL! I don't think Eovaldi is on his deathbed.

He has been out for three months....that is as close to death bed as it gets for somebody we are pining all these hopes on.

Call it what you want. He is not enough to rescue this mess.

Still a decent chance at a win. We simply do not know from one day to the next if we can get anybody out. That is the actual problem. That is the way it has been all year long. Doesn't matter who's laundry the opponents are wearing and it hardly matters who we send out to the mound....Would do as well with a deck of tarot cards trying to guess from one day to the next if we are going to get anybody out.

Not sure if my heart is going to resist through this torture night after night LOL!

We need Eovaldi badly.

Guardians and athletics just keep winning games. This team has to do the same. They need a long winning streak.

This in fact after All-Star break just last week, Guardians gained 2 games on last Wild Card, and A's past us. Cannot lose to these cupcakes, starting Monday, it gets interesting. Winning is important against Jays and Orioles, losing to them hurts more.

Open to discussion but when will Brock be an everyday starter?

Cora has made some strange decisions this year so who knows but he should be an every day starter now.

I have to say I'm getting pretty sick of the "can't lose to cupcakes" thesis. This ain't the NFL or the NBA. The Jays right now win 37% of the time and the Sox 54%, which means the Jays would normally take at least 1 game in a 3 or 4 games series. We've just taken 2 of 3 in this series, which is actually good--not terrible as you imply. We should now have a good but not great statistical shot at winning the 4th game. In actuality, however, we have Sale going against a call-up lefty with an ERA of 6.18.

So I think our chances are good for taking 3 of 4 vs. the Jays, which should be cause for a modicum of joy on talksox. But it likely won't be because of the irrational idea that a team winning 54% of its games should sweep all 4 of its games against a team winning 37% of its games.

A reality check also tells us that this Sox team, while hitting up a storm (most runs in MLB), ain't so good on the mound because of an inconsistent rotation and a so-so bullpen. That's why the Jays killed us in game 2 of this series and why weaker teams can continue to spoil our season.

The Orioles are taking the term " weaker team " to a whole new level . The difference in talent levels between the Sox and them is vast .Not sweeping them would be very disappointing.
