hope he beats you.

Nah, it would be more exciting to see the sox vs the Yanks in the playoffs.

Or are you just that scared of the Yankees?

Yep. We could have two teams in the AL East with over 100 wins and one of them will be playing a team with possibly

That points out precisely what is wrong with the current wild card system.

The win disparity can be explained in part by the Red Sox and Yankees playing in a less competitive division than the Mariners and Astros.

Just as the poor records of Toronto, Tampa Bay and Baltimore can be explained in part by their having to play 38 games against the Sox and the Yankees.

The Mariners would probably prefer to play the Red Sox OR the Yankees 18 times a year instead of 18 games a year against the defending World Series champion and presumptive favorite Astros.

The Red Sox and Yankees are a combined 58 games above .500 while the Astros and Mariners are a combined 51 games above .500.

The other three AL East teams are a combined 44 games below .500 while the other three AL West teams are a combined 1 game under .500.

It’s clear what’s going on,

AL West teams have a winning record in face-to-face competition against AL East teams this year despite having played only 16 games against the hapless Orioles (who are 1-15 in those games).

One could argue that the AL East has the easier inter league draw this season.

One would be wrong...like almost every year.

Of course if the M's had to play in the AL East they wouldn't play the Sox OR the Yankees. They'd be playing the Sox AND the Yankees.

As Monty Hall would say, "Come on down!!"

The NL West is projected to post a better cumulative record than the NL East this year:

Last year the NL West sent three teams to the postseason while the Miami Marlins finished second in the NL East, eight games below .500.

The NL East has improved this year but still lags behind the NL West.

The issue was raised in the context of win totals, not whether the Mariners could win head-to-head series against the Red Sox and Yankees.

The Mariners posted a 3-4 record against the Red Sox this year and are 0-3 against the Yankees with three games remaining in Seattle.

The Mariners are a combined 12-2 against the other three AL East clubs.

That’s the point.

I wouldn't call TB's .500 record past the halfway mark , nor even Toronto's .465 record as "poor" , especially since they have to play 38 games vs Sox and NYY. The AL East , scusing the o's, is still a formidable division. In the AL West , 4 of the 5 teams are over .500 , but the Central is the dog show with 2nd place Twins 12 games under .500 but only 11.5 behind Cleveland , who should be arrested for grand theft of a division.

No, actually, if you put Seattle in a division with NYY and BOS, one of the other 3 teams would have to go elsewhere.

If you swapped out the O's, you might not finish in 3rd.

I never said we always had the hardest schedule, but we're never near the easiest- EVAH!

Good point.

If the Red Sox and Mariners swapped divisions, the Sox would play about 18 games each against the Astros, Athletics, Angels and Rangers while the M’s would play 18 each against the Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays and Orioles.

The Mariners would probably like that switch (and likely postseason berth).

I do believe that should end that discussion. That was a stab to the heart, Dewey. Nicely done.

Oops, sorry, but that was not a stab to the heart, but a serious blow. After thinking about it, it would be possible for a 3rd place club to make the playoffs.

In fact, didn't that happen a few years ago in the AL East?

Harmony, you're a good M's fan. I respect that. But, I believe the A's are for real. They're starting to realize they are in the race.

A Seattle Mariner fan is no stranger to disappointment.

Nevertheless, the disappointment would reach new depths if the Mariners collapse after reaching an 88 percent chance of advancing to the postseason.

Anything can happen.🙄

Btw, I have a drinking buddy at the local tavern here in Syracuse, NY who is an M's fan. The only M's fan I know here locally. He moved here from Seattle about 15 years ago. Don't know if this has anything to do with him being an M's fan, but he is the most knowledgeable baseball person I've ever met. One cannot stump this guy with baseball trivia. I and some other friends have tried and we have failed miserably.

Disappointment? We SOX fans have no competition when it comes to disappointment.

A distressed baseball franchise attracts fewer less knowledgeable bandwagon fans.😁

I remember back in the '90's when your team won 116 games, but didn't even get to the WS. I still think it's safe to say they were the best team in baseball that year. I also remember in 2006 when the Cards were 83-79 and they won the whole thing. It is a crazy game.

No, I don't know what you mean.

It was an honest question.........

It really didn't seem like an honest question. For the record, I definitely want to face the NYY in the ALCS. Still, if the Yankees face the Mariners, I would LMFAO if the M's beat the Yankees.

Of course, ANYBODY in their Right mind would be nervous facing the Yankees, but we ALL relish the thought of beating the best. I want the Yankees to be the best in the MLB, & then I want to beat them in the ALCS.

Still, I would LOL if they were beaten by the M's in a 1 off, or any series for that matter.... ALDS....
