It appears that the SOX suffered jet lag in 8 of the 9 innings.

Didn’t think we would sweep this series. Seattle is too good. Offensively we played good enough to win. Porcello wasn’t great but good enough to win. Relievers cost us this game. Tomorrow is another day.

This was the kind of game where the SOX needed their 2 best relievers to win. Neither was in the game.

Completely agreed. Especially against a team that is playing as good as Seattle. Such a shame. Could have 2 straight against this team.

Sprint vs. marathon. You can’t trot those 2 guys out there every game. You do that and neither will be around in August, let alone September. Both have been used a fair amount this week. Hembree and Barnes have generally gotten the job done this year. Not always as cleanly as we would like, but for the most part, they’ve done their job. Tonight Barnes didn’t have it; it happens.

Good point. Everyone needs rest sometimes. Maybe it was better to save them against a team like Seattle but at the end of the day it was a close game and we lost to a very good team. With that the Yankees are now tied for first with us :(

I guess Kelly wasn't available tonight. The bridge to Kimbrel is very creaky when Kelly is not involved. In fact, there hardly is a bridge.

Kelly wasn’t available because Cora just had to use him up in 4 or 5 run leads vs the hapless orioles with a 4 game set vs the 1st place mariners that can hit like the devil.

Perhaps they shouldn’t have been trotted out so frequently in Baltimore with Seattle on the horizon.

We hit the ball very hard and saw some great defense against us.

A little luck and this game was ours.

Exactly. These types of losses are the hardest to take, but losing a game by one run is actually much better than losing a game by a wider margin.

This M's team is as good a team as we have seen lately....pretty close to the Astros. Like I said earlier, if we split I will be happy with that. Was living in the glory of possibly getting two wins out of the first two games. Just wasn't to be.

Workman might have to start showing Cora something with the number of games we have to play coming up.

Upon closer investigation, the M's team is not nearly as good as their record indicates that they are, and they are not nearly as good as the Astros. (Sorry Harmony)

The Astros have a +146 run differential and are currently 5 games below their Pythagorean W-L record. They have been unlucky in one run games with a 6-12 record.

The Ms have a +27 run differential and are currently 7 games above their Pythagorean W-L record. They have been lucky in one run games with a 22-10 record.

The Astros should be leading the division by 12.5 games. Barring serious injuries, look for the Astros to pull away from the Ms over the remainder of the season. The Ms may still very well make the playoffs as a WC team due to lack of better competition, but they will not challenge the Astros for the division.

Today is a new day.

I feel good about tonight's game. Especially since it's on at a decent hour. :)

Perhaps. As I said, I was surprised to see Kimbrel in that 4 run lead game.

That said, there is no guarantee that we would have won the Baltimore game if another reliever would have been used, and there is no guarantee that we would have won last night's game if Kelly and Kimbrel were available.

Also, nice run with the game thread mojo.

When you consider where most of these trash AL teams are this year, the M's are far closer to the Astros than they are to lets say the O's or Jays or Rays or Tigers or WS...Unfortunately, I could go on.

And if the Astros are going to beat this team by 12.5 games they better get going. This is no longer the second week of the season. We are 70 games into a 162 game season. Like I said, the M's must really be irritated with the Cano thing.

Blowing a game is the worst of it.

It hurts to let a game get away after leading it for most of the game, especially when you have knocked an elite pitcher like Paxton out of the box so early. Porcello usually pitches very well with a lead and it looked like that pattern what’s going to continue. He had two 1-2-3 innininfs in a row and was on his way to a third when the wheels fell off with 2 out and no one on base. s*** happens. No one would have predicted this type of outcome, but baseball is confounding.

Yankees winning again. The rays like the birds seemed to lie down a lot against the skanks. Edited by d-money

Hit the ball hard and bad luck no longer cuts it. This very 6-9 spotty bats is catching up with them. Meanwhile Moreland is coming down to his level.

This is an important series for the Sox as it will be for the yanks coming up. SEA is 7 games up on a playoff spot and with the Astros projected to win the division, it seems like one of us will be playing them in the playin game. The Sox are 2.5 games up on the Mariners at start of play today. If the Sox or Yanks finish with identical records as the Mariners, home field is determined by head to head matchups

I agree that there is an awful lot of trash out there in the AL. That bodes well for the Ms earning a WC spot.

I didn't say the Astros were going to beat Seattle by 12.5 games. I said they should be ahead of the Ms right now by 12.5 games, but there is only 1/2 a game separating the two teams right now, largely due to luck. I don't think Seattle will challenge the Astros for the division in the end.

Maybe even very random!
