Two good starts in a row by ERod--both quality, both 6 innings and 1 run. Painful, but effective.

HanRam also contributed--on a night when the Sox are up 11-1, someone needed to move this game closer to completion. Those 4 outs were very helpful.

Hahaha

Add to that a 1-3 in the bottom of the 8th.

Yeah, but on nights where we pound out 11 runs, I find myself caring just a little bit less about Hanley's incapacities

Just got caught up with the tape delay.

Wow, this is the same A's team that just swept the Astros by scoring like 12 runs a game.

Great to see Betts come alive.

Pitching looks awesome!

So let's look at the playoffs picture right now. Assuming the Yankees someone win a wildcard spot and win the wildcard. Who would we face assuming we win the division. Are we gonna play the astros in the divisional round?

Yes

And you meant to say "beat" the Astros.

Lol. Our pitching has done well lately but everytime it gets to porcello he has to mess it up for us.

Porcello should ride the pine when we hit the post season.

Then we hope he's a yo-yo, and has a bad season, then good season, then bad season, then good season.........

Ya. I put up a post about that very thing the next day, that if the umpires are going to demand that they see contact with the plate they're going to have to call every sliding play at the plate as an out because the video is always looking down on the plate and the contact can't be verified.

Well the odd thing is that Vaz's foot left a contrail of dirt on the plate which coincides exactly with the path of his foot. Indeed, the dirt is clumped together near the leading edge of the plate, near the black, and then diffuseness as it get closer to the center of the plate.

Again, I can see the ump making the wrong call in real time because he would have to be able to focus on Vaz's foot while focusing on the tag at the same time.

But the idiots in New York had several minutes to review all video angles and got it wrong.

There was, in my opinion, irrefutable evidence that Vaz touched the plate and that he touched the plate before the tag.

Oh well. It's milk over the dam now.

Playing teams with bad pitching leads to higher run totals. Do you have any more pearls of wisdom for us, oh great and mighty Grand Champion?

Why do you pick on this kid? You do it with obvious regularity.

It's stupid and unseemly of you to do so.

I agree, and I thought Thunder's response was rather appropriate! :D

I think the Guardians aren't just hot--which they certainly are right now. They also have the best overall defense in MLB--including pitching and fielding--and not only the best in the AL, but the best by a sizable margin. Pitching and defense are more reliable--in my opinion--gauges of postseason success than good hitting.

Thus I think we have a better chance of beating the Astros in the ALDS than the Guardians.

And it's possible we just might be the only ones with a real shot against the Guardians in the ALCS. Yes, Kluber is probably better than Sale, but Sale ain't no slouch and, despite recent outings vs. the Guardians, he is first and foremost a competitor who has been working hard on throwing more breaking balls and keeping they low in the zone--with just enough of those fastballs. I'm thinking he will rise to the occasion.

We beat their #2 Carrasco last time out--badly, 9-1--and our guy was none other than the great Fister.

After those two, we still have the possibility (only that) of Price and, if not him, Pom or ERod. Both throw way too many pitches, but lately ERod seems to be getting better and has now had 2 straight quality starts, both going 6 and giving up 1 run. Pom has had his moments too and actually has the second best pitching WAR on the Sox and the 12th best in the AL.

All that said, one reality endures. Even great pitching can't win if you don't score any runs. In the ALCS of 2013, Detroit beat us 1-0 in game one despite Lester's sterling performance. Lackey beat Verlander 1-0 in game 3 because he threw a shutout (with bullpen help), but we still needed that dinger in the 7th by Mike Napoli. That 2013 team had easily the best offense--run scoring--in the AL, but nevertheless won the WS mostly because of great pitching. This year our hitting and run scoring are suspect.

Yeah his sarcasm would be "funny" if it were not directed solely at Thunder.

Thunder can say some strange things but so f***ing what?

Why does anyone here feel the need to demonstrate that their prick is bigger than anyone else's?

We all make fun of someone now and then and I'm okay with that.

But singling out one person, and in this case a very young person, is immature and wrong.

i hear ya spud. but i think that's what makes it kinda funny. it's appears to be so random that he singling out one poster.

it's like sccurry always finding a way to slip dick into his posts....bizarre...but funny.

Except Scurry does not make his stuff personal and direct it towards just one person.

I really enjoy scurry's stuff. It is very much like what we used to see back in 2009-2012 on Talksox.
