I'll be the first to concede that the Sox brass have more information on Devers and have more experience in evaluating players than this humble fan, but I find these stats interesting. I understand that the Sox do not want to rush this young player and I'm not suggesting that Devers would respond with the same production that Bellinger is now providing the Dodgers in his rookie year. On the other hand he might be the 'lightning in a bottle' that could provide added impetus to the second half of the season.

----------------------------------------G AB HR RBI BA OBP OPS

Cody Bellinger Minors (5 seasons) 361 1332 65 253 .271 .353 .853

Rafael Devers Minors (4 seasons) 391 1524 48 256 .296 .354 .837

Bellinger was only called up due to Injuries in LA. They got hit by a ton of injuries and didn't plan on calling up Bellinger till at least mid season, injuries forced their hand, and once he was called up, he got off to such an absurd start they couldn't send him down. Bellingers ability to play both OF and 1B also made him really valuable with all their injuries.

I'm sure Devers will come up soon, but there was a lot of things that happened for Bellinger to be called up that soon. Pederson, Puig, Toles, Gonzalez all went down at same time, with Toles being a season ending injury.

By the way Bellinger was the best fantasy baseball pick up ever. Dude has been a God.

You might say the Sox hand may be forced with hitting a major issue of late.

Both have handled being promoted aggressively - Devers has been among the youngest regulars at every level he has been in - and this year the power (usually the last thing to show up) is arriving. Obviously he is a prospect with the caveats - but there is no ceiling. Guys who do what he does at his age are almost always going to be really f'ing good.
