Well at least it will only be half a game. I don't think these splits won't help us. Got the rays next. Gotta take 3 out of 4.

Everytime we have a chance to close in on the Jays we mess it up! Glad the Jays lost but we should have won this game. One plus is we play Tampa tomorrow and Price is pitching.

Should have won? They didn't touch Verlander, and Owens was tagged for 8 in 5.

This one is squarely on E-Rod. The team is going up against one of the best pitchers in baseball, on the road, and you decided to quite on the team the night before your start? He quit on the team, it's as simple as that. If he felt alright enough to go through his weekly routine, he can pitch. If TO can play on a broken f*cking leg, I think you pitch with a tight hamstring. F*ck, I often deal with tight hammys/quads/calfs mountain running... you know what I do? I shake it off and keep going. I'm totally with Schilling on this one. You want a pitcher with killer instincts, the guy who would run through a wall for the team, the guy who will pitch through pain, will want to make every start no matter what, the guy that has to be dragged off the mound kicking and screaming. You DON'T want the guy who asks to leave a game because "my muscles are sore!" and then f*cking quits the night before their god damn start. It's late August in a race for the division. You better be f*cking limping to miss your start. You at least give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. But telling the team the night before that you are too 'nervous' and uncomfortable? F*ck you. If I was a team mate, I'd be livid at him. Everyone is dealing with soreness and injuries. Man the f*ck up.

Erod is weak sauce. We've seen this before. Great stuff, but starts becoming injury prone, and doesn't have the emotional toughness to handle pressure, etc. Sound familiar?

F*ck Erod.

You make all valid points. The problem if you look at it the other way, if Erod decides to pitch and gets injured , goes on the DL stint or longer, you have Owens or some other just another guy comes up and pitches in that spot.

Some Good News: Steven Wright is feeling a lot better and pitching this weekend against K.C

You think Farrell would let him get ready for the start if there was a legitimate injury concern? The fact is there is always a risk, especially late in the season. Farrell sounded very annoyed with him and I read that he seemed to be doing fine. It's not a good sign when your manager uses "uncomfortable" and "nervous" as reasons a player scratched themselves. Farrell is an overly cautious guy as it is, for him to call someone out for it, that's really bad.

This would not be the first time their has been some communication problems between Manager/ Player.

Example .. Wright went from being pushed back to start , to being DL-ed, to pitching against the Tigers. To now will be more than likely to pitch against Kansas City. This stuff happens. It shouldn't ,but does. Curt Schilling was a great pitcher, but don't take anything he says as gospel. .. Things have changed from ten years ago. What you saw with pitchers like Pedro, Schilling, R.Johnson, Maddux, And all the other great ones is not going to happen. I hate it as much as you do, but it's reality. I know what Schilling said between 6 AM- 10AM. Gerry Callahan got on Erod as well. I text the morning show all the time. They never respond, I don't blame them.. I wish I could show you the texts but I can't lol.

Here is another way to dole out the blame. If Farrell had not chosen to pinch run Wright then maybe Buch could have started today and pitched better than Owens.

I ran into a website a while back that was about why a pickle has a better chance of pitching a good outing than Owens does.........

Looks like there will be no help from AAA......................

The only other thing that caught my eye about this game is that they threw in Taz when they did.

I guess he has been relegated to the scrap heap.......................

He broke down around mid season last year too....... I think he is done....... I don't remember him coming back much last year....

Hey Kimmi, please accept my sincere apology for my rookie mistake. How do I delete my original thread?

No need to apologize to me, though you should apologize to the team and the fans in general. This loss, and any subsequent poor play, is clearly on your shoulders. Never mess with mojo!

I love Taz, but it appears that he is done. I feel a 'tired arm' DL stint coming, then he could be back with the team in September. Not that I'd use him in any close situations, but he could at least provide some non-key innings.

I can't complain about a split with Detroit on the road, not to mention that we are 5-2 so far on this very difficult road trip. Seriously, if someone told us we'd go 5-2 in the first 7 games, I think every one of us would be all in on that. It helps that the rest of the division lost yesterday too.

I would really like to take 3 of 4 from the Rays, but I would be okay with a split. The Rays have played us tough and are playing well lately.

I do agree, but with the Jays playing the Angels and Twins this week at home, the sox playing the Rays on the road and a hot KC team , they need 3 out of 4. It's just so tough to win on the road in any sport. Can they catch fire from this point on.... will see

Taz is the same thing all over again and the same thing all over again. This is the third consecutive year that he's fallen apart late in the season. In 2014 & 2015 I attributed it to overuse because he was all we had for a while. It may be cumulative overuse in 2016 too, but whatever it is he shouldn't be out there in any 'save situation' and when he IS there he should be on a very short leash.

agreed. if he comes into any ballgame where we are +/- 3 runs, JF should be ready to pull him after 1 batter gets on. hit, walk, error...i dont care. 1 and done....

Funny thing, but I think he has the same pitches, but now they are mostly hittable.

When the fastball went from 95-96 to 91-92 that is now, it happens.
