With Leon DH'ing and Holiday catching, there is less of possibility of Holliday getting PH for than the other day. If he PH's for Holiday, he will not only have no backup catcher on the bench, but he will also use the DH and the pitcher will have to bat if Holiday's spot comes around again.

 

agreed. i dont think many managers would ever PH for the starting catcher unless they are carrying 3.

If it came to that, he would have 3 of Pedroia, Ortiz, Holt or Shaw to ph for the pitcher(s) (I'm assuming one of them would be used to hit for Holoday). Pomeranz has some decent numbers for a pitcher, so he could be used as well (might be very useful in a bunting situation). All but Ortiz could be used in the double switch game as well, to postpone a pitcher "needing" to hit.

You mean Dave Dombrowski who started it? Thursday day games are popular in Detroit and thousands of fans bought tickets and made arrangements for this game. There is also a Lions game at 7:30. The baseball universe doesn't revolve around the Red Sox. This wasn't some move to punish Dombrowski or the Red Sox. Whether it was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th game of the series, it would have been played during the day and Dombrowski knows this. Did Dombrowski ask Baltimore to move their game to the day time?

The Tigers would have moved the game when the Lions schedule came out unless of course the Lions ended up paying at a different time because of the game.

So there's a runner on first, then the batter hits it to center. The center fielder (JBJ) tries to catch it and it's ruled an out initially by the umpire (but it was actually not caught). If it was not ruled an out in the moment by the ump, both runners would have been safe. So I guess that's why this is happening. I'm not sure if the umps are supposed to just put the runner on 3rd though.
