What concerns me is that he was done more than a month ago.

 

Since it seems like he was in every game, I thought it must be over use.

 

So I checked out his innings compared to other relievers and his use didn't look especially high. Heck, we didn't have any playoff games last year either.

 

He also is still hitting mid nineties once in a while.

The whole bullpen sucks. Taz is the least of our problems.

I wouldn't say the "least" of our problems. I mean, his August/September numbers are horrifying:

 

15 g, 13.2 ip, 24 h, 14 r, 14 er, 6 bb, 10 k, 9.22 era, 2.20 whip, opponents hitting .400/.448/.633/1.081, 5 blown saves

 

I mean, that's as bad as it gets, 700. He's been a MAJOR problem the last month and a half. If you can consider anything at this point to be a real "problem".

Why won't they shut him down. Players who are s*** are sent to the DL all the time, namely Buccholz.

Tazawa has not been good recently, but seriously, neither has anyone else in our pen, except for maybe Robbie Ross. Lovullo doesn't really have any great options.

The pen has been in my view the single biggest problem on this club all year long. The early weaknesses in the rotation in the spring has only made a poor bullpen worse. Dumbrowski has to decide if anyone is salvageable for next year. I for one don't expect Koji to be reliable or a viable next year given his age and the nature of his injury. I see Dumbrowski having to get a closer, a setup guy as well as at least one starter.

To be perfectly clear, I am hard pressed to think of anyone he should keep. Ross is a maybe. Tazawa is toast. So I wouldn't be surprised to see all new faces from this year's pen.
