Holt has faded. Hitting .234 in the last 30 days.

Need a scare with a DFA for him to hit.

I love Holt and hope he soon breaks out of this slump, but while he is in the midst of his 2nd half fade, he should not be batting in the top of the order.

I hate to even say it, but watching that Yank rookie was fun......... he has some great stuff......

He pitched a very good game. You have to give credit where credit is due. Tough luck loss for him, though I'm not complaining. :)

Just saw Rizzo clobbered 5th HR in 6 days, 21 on the season. This is the guy that was their Ortiz impact replacement in the 3 hole. Now he do it for Theo. f***ing things looking good in Chitown.

The best part for the Cubbies is that they look set for the long haul. Whoever wanted Theo gone should slap themselves in the face a couple of times.

Bradley hitting .104 swings on 3-0 count. Ridiculous! This is what I mean when I say that the frustration goes beyond the losing. They dont play the game the right way.

Well, you can look at that a couple of ways. You can think that since he's not hitting, he should take 2 strikes before he even thinks about swinging at a pitch, or you can think that since he's not hitting, give him the green light because the pitcher is likely to grooove a fast ball and maybe he can get a hit give himself a confidence boost. I can understand both takes, but since we are playing more for next year, I see nothing wrong with the latter.

JBJ seems like a hard guy to coached. That was the report last year.

On a 3-0 count, doesn't the manager usually make the call on whether batter has the green light or not? JBJ may be a hard guy to coach, but I think in this instance, Farrell gave him the green light.

If the Sox decline Buch's $13 million option they only have to pay him $245K and he's a free agent.

Not sure what that has to do with coming up with $200 million or more for Cueto though.

They need an ace. If you decide to opt out of his contract, that'll save you around 26 million. That'll help out a little bit.

I want to get a sense of what other people here think who will make up next years starting five to open the season.

#1 acquisition, though I have no idea who that will be, #2-3 acquisition, Buchholz, Porcello, Miley. Rodriguez starts the year in AAA.

The alternative would be #1 acquisition, Buchholz, Porcello, Miley, Rodriguez, but that leaves us very little depth if/when Buchholz goes down.

Either way, I can't see the Sox beginning the year with a rotation containing both Rodriguez and Owens.

The FO has to make a big move.......

I am almost positive they will make a big move for a #1 pitcher. With all the criticism they have gotten this year over the pitching staff, I can't see them not making that move.

i look at it from the perspective of trying to win the game. With a 1 run lead in the 9th inning, your lead off hitter gets the take sign on a 3-0 count, especially if he is hitting .104. I might think of turning him loose if there is a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs to give him the best opportunity to drive the ball. Never when leading off. There is no other way to look at it. That is just not the right way to play the game to win.

I think you meant to say "when" Buchholz goes down?

As I said, I can understand both takes, so I'm not really arguing against what you're saying from the aspect of trying to win the game. However, I disagree that there is no other way to look at. What is more important from the Sox standpoint right now is what we have for next year, so I can also understand letting him swing away.

Either way, I am pretty sure that was Farrell's call. So if anyone is to blame for a poor decision, it would be Farrell.

It sound like we all know there is a high probability of him getting hurt again. So, is he really worth the 13 million next year and another 13 million the next?

Yes, he is worth $13 million, even with the risk of him getting hurt. And the options are one year options, so picking up next year's option does not necessitate picking up the option for 2017.

i can agree that it was probably Farrell's call. That is not how a winning manager would play it. If he is concerned about next year, his best chance to still be here next season is if he gets the team playing good ball down the stretch.

A win tonight would satisfy me greatly. My goal for this team from here until football season is to win series. A win tonight is two straight, and 3 out of 4 after that abysmal start to the 2nd half.

If E-Rod or Buch is considered our #1 next year......... we are screwed again........
