Okay, it needs to be said. Miley, Porcello, and Kelly flat out stink. I know that we didn't expect our pitchers to be anything other than mediocre, and I know that our hitting stinks too, but to have 3 starters with ERAs above 5 as of June 11th is way worse than anyone projected. I have seen some bad pitching staffs through the years, but none come close to this steaming hot pile of garbage. And Miley, Porcello, and Kelly are not the worst of the lot. Masterson made them look like Cy Young candidates. Porcello is the biggest disappointment, because he had the highest expectations. He was supposed to spearhead the staff.

I agree but pitching hasn't actually been our biggest problem. No timely or decent hitting.

And we have Miley and Porcello for 3 and 4 more years -- real value contracts. Happy Days! Ben, call the Dodgers and hope that their GM is drunk and taking a bath in thousand dollar bills.

If you have 4 starters with over 5 ERAs, your lineup needs to be issued machine guns to be competitive.

This and the offense needs to produce!

a700, I think the GM takes the heat here. When you go out and remake your roster, you own it. What I don't think he took into account was how Porcello would react as "the guy". He'd been in Detroit where last year, he was 5th in line for starts and died in September. Bring him in here, anoint him your ace, throw gobs of money at him and expect him to be something he has never been and you have the makings of an abject failure. Also, I think Cherries thought Porcello was building up and last year was akin to what was to come aside from an aberration of an otherwise middling career. You can go out and get that player, but the contract extension right now looks real bad.

I said from DAY 1 that Miley was a bad move. This guy is a HR waiting to happen and has seen his rates move in the wrong direction.

Masterson was done last year, Ben thought he could coax another year out of a dead body. He was wrong.

Kelly was a guy who never cut it as a starter in the NL, why did they think he could all of a sudden do it in the AL?

You throw $103 mil over 5 years at Porcello and you could have had Lester for another year and $30 more mil. A rotation takes its beat from the top. When you have an ace, guys can feed off it. When everyone else sucks, then you can play down to your surroundings

Nothing in your post can be disputed to my great consternation.

While I was reading this a HR was in effect.

Miley went nuts on Farrell in the dugout after pitching like that? This team is falling apart at the seams.

Wow. The MSSN feed did not show that. What happened?

I missed that. I'm sure the whole team is frustrated. They haven't given up, IMO. They feel helpless. But they need to step their s*** UP!
