I think Betances would have won the spot with a good spring, but it might be best for him if he didn't. Give him an extra season to prove he can repeat his dominance (although I doubt he is ever as dominant again as he was the best reliever in baseball last yr).

I still don't understand why the Yankees signed Andrew Miller over Robertson. Miller has been very good lately, but Robertson has shown that he can get the job done in the Bronx.

On another note, CC seems a little frustrated.

If Miller doesn't fall into his old control problems, he'll be tough especially with the short porch in RF. But who knows if he has the mentality to close. It might make his control issues return.

I was sure we'd sign one of the best free agent starting pitchers this winter, but I think we're in great shape at the moment. Tanaka and Pineda both are having ace-like seasons and of course have ace-like stuff. Eovaldi has been extremely unlucky, but is still putting up solid numbers. He's only 25 and the youngest guy in the rotation. Warren has been excellent as well and is building off his great 2014 season out of the bullpen. CC is meh. Nova's reports are pretty good hitting 95 mph in minor league games. I wouldn't move Warren out of the rotation though. This off season we could even see the Yankees dangle a guy like Warren or Eovaldi in a trade. Whitely should be back June 2016 as well. Mitchell and Servino are pitching well in Triple-A. Good depth right now. Even after trading Phelps and Greene and saying our goodbyes to McCarthy and Kuroda. Wish there was some way we could dump CC.

Meh, if we had our usual troubles, I'd say move CC to the pen. The problem is, we have a bunch of left handed relievers. Also, CC has started to turn the corner. I think part of it is that Girardi is learning how to play him. If Joe has his eye to the pen after the second turn through the lineup, then we'll be ok. If he thinks he's cruising into the 6th and 7th and has no contingency, then we are f***ed.

I like our depth. Nova has been throwing absolute ched in the minors. I'd love to see him enter the fray. I think they'll pull Warren from the rotation, even though he's probably been our second best starter this yr due to consistency and performance. It's a good problem to have. With 6 MLB quality starters, we can have the depth to deal with a Pineda or Tanaka injury

I actually like our mix at the moment. After next year CC and Nova will be gone, but I think we'll have enough to cover those loses. Starsburg and maybe Cashner interest me in that free agent class.

I think Severino has carved out a role here. He looks like he belongs and his stuff is ace level. For next year, they are going to have too many starters based on who is under control. That being said, I doubt they all come to camp. As it stands...

1. Tanaka

2. Pineda

3. Eovaldi

4. Severino

5. Nova

6. Sabathia

7. Mitchell

8. Warren

And we do have some more reinforcements with Lail making the jump all the way to AAA. I have a feeling we deal off some of the redundancy and maybe sign a sure fire ace a la Price or Cueto, but who knows

hell no to Cueto and Price would be too much. I can see the Dodgers handing him a 250 million deal. I mean who are you going to deal off? Tanaka? I would hold onto Eovaldi, he might be our best starter. Nova will net us a draft pick the following year, but I wouldn't mind seeing what he could bring back. obviously I'd love to see CC gone. You have to have Warren above Mitchell in the roto though too.

CC might be done for his career now man. That knee was bone on bone and he decided not to undergo microfracture surgery. If he undergoes that, he's done. I hope he is done. I loved CC and admire his efforts in getting us #27. But he has been a shell of himself since his first knee surgery. I saw the velo return this year, but the fact that he cannot keep the ball down really shows that his lower half just isn't there. Take your money CC and retire. The Yankees have the contract insured anyway. We do not need you anymore, no need to keep fighting the pain to suck ass on the hill.

Eovaldi has looked like a new pitcher since he started re-implementing his splitter. They ran a story on him that about 6 weeks ago, McCann altered his splitter grip allowing for better control and movement. This has forced hitters to respect the splitter down, which has made his high fastball much more deadly. He has the tools to be an ace and he is finally trending in that direction
