Don't worry, they're doing that when you're not watching too

jd, I don't know if you read one of my missives a day or two ago concerning our great ability to come from behind to TIE only to lose the game. Tonight was the 16th f***ing time we've done that this year----that is, come from two or more runs down only to lose in later innings. That my friend is the sign of a truly s***** team---and I have been insistent that their handling of Bogaerts has set him back at the very least a year and might have actually screwed with his head so that he will never be the player for us that could have been....AND FOR WHAT ?????" So Farrell's pet Drew could get into the lineup and screw things up royally while hitting a frigid 131?????????? Somebody in the front office, please wake the hell up and put an end to this farce.

It looks like the Sox will get three quarters of one season out of Victorino for $39 million. Shrewd.

Yup.

But most people here are satisfied that he contributed to last years amazing success.

I'm more of a "what have you done for me lately" kind of guy.

When Victorino is healthy he is so fun to watch with his speed and occasional pop.

I think this season is lost for Victorino and that he is not likely to be a major contributor for the remainder of his contract.

Spud----trade Drew??? Are you freakin' kidding????? Who the hell would want him? He a 131 hitting garbage of a player. He will have to be released and he needs to be released. The house cleaning starts with him. I also notice the big Drew fans have been very noticeable by either their silence or their absence. Think about it for a moment. From the moment he was inserted into the lineup in Cleveland on June 2 the team has taken a tumble the likes of which has seldom been seen in Boston. Sure, it is not all his fault but he is the weakest link and I have gotten tired of saying it but I will be convinced of it until he is gone, but his signing was the very worst thing that could have happened to this team this season. He had no ST, no other team even gave him a sniff but like a bunch of flunkies we went and gave him ten million....AND FOR WHA T???????? He has to go.

Maybe Drew gets released. Who knows?

I think that he will eventually start hitting again. He is a professional MLB hitter and a very good glove.

I believe that there is a market for that still.

He was a huge contributor in 2013, and his loss this season is a big reason for the total flop of 2014. I just bring it up, because it is not just the Yankees that get hosed on multiple year contracts. This FO does very few contracts over 1 or 2 years. One of the very few multiple year contract they have inked is Victorino, and it looks like a bust. Buchholz's contract is pretty much of a bust too. Do we have any other guys inked for more than 2 years?

That $5 million saved was shrewdly put to use on Drew.
The Red Sox were within $5MM of the final bidding (six years, $68MM) for now-White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, reports Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald. Interestingly, Boston felt that Abreu could be used across the diamond at third base. Chicago GM Rick Hahn said that, in learning more about the bidding after landing Abreu, “it turns out there were several teams, not just us and Boston, that were awfully aggressive and pretty close to where we were at the end.” As things stand, it looks like Hahn made the right choice to outbid that dense market.
