Pedroia is in a slump lately.

Just notice all the ground balls he has hit to the shortstop. He seems to do that at least once or twice a game. He needs to start hitting better and maybe now batting in the third hold where I have always said is his place, maybe he will go on a hot streak. We certainly need him and Ortiz to carry the load until Napoli returns and a couple of other of our stiffs start contributing to the cause. And so very good to get a win today.

Like 700 always says "when Pedey doesn't hit, the team doesn't hit" That changed in the 5th yesterday. It woke Papi up etc. Pedey also had 2 BBs. Only one game but a good sign IMO. Holt has also been pretty consistent leading off during the miserable 10 game slide.

My guess is that Perdroia is not hitting well because of a lingering wrist injury.

He has not been the same hitter since the original injury. Cordesone injections reduce swelling temporarily. However, the root cause of the inflammation remains.

Pedroia is hurt.

I think most everyone here would agree in some measure that as Dustin and Papi go so often go the Red Sox. I would add Napoli to that list but the guy had been playing hurt and trying like hell to contribute. Now with him out Bogaerts really has to step up and, keeping fingers crossed, maybe finally Sizemore might be ready to ignite. I just hope Jon is on his game tonight and gets enough offensive support to make it two in succession for our side. Like you that ten game losing streak took a lot out of me----and if Holt keeps hitting we have to find a spot for him. As you know I didn't like the signing of Drew and I like it less now VA, we need a couple of outfielders with a little pop.

Keep that in mind when you and others excoriate Middlebrooks. Remember that Will had his wrist crushed by a fastball in the summer of 2012 when he was having a solid season. Those wrist injuries sometimes takes two years to fully heal and that injury occurred two years ago this coming August. Remember Papi's wrist injury during ST in 2008? A mediocre season and then a debacle of a start the first three months on 2009. Wrist injuries take time to heal and there is no shortcut there.
