We are starting to see the losses of Pineda, Nova and CC. 3 games in a row, the pen has been handed a lead and all three they've coughed up. Granted, yesterday was our D pen, but still. Also, our offense sucks ass. Seriously, sucks ass. No cohesion, disjointed, and too many guy in the middle who don't hit. We miss Cano, but we just need some guys to play up to the backs of their baseball cards. McCann has been a disaster offensively. Ells has been below his career norms. So latte came back to earth. Beltran is hurt, but he sucke before injury. Soriano needs replacing, he looks horrible.

Gee Jacko, it sounds just like my team. At least you can be confident that your GM will go out and trade for what you need. Ours will sit on his ass and talk about all our "great" prospects..........like Bradley and Hassan.

It's like he's never won a World Series before or made any deadline deals...

We'll see on that. He should be on the phone daily seeing if anything is available. Our outfield sucks to high heaven and instead of trying solidify it he goes and sign Drew, an infielder who hasn't faced live ML pitching since October and already is 0 for 6 with three strikeouts and a botched bunt. And if he can't make any deadline deals or deals of any kind he Cherington ought to back up the truck, put Mujica, Miller, Gomes and Sizemore on it and send it on.....and then send Bradley down. Jackie has no damn business being in the Red Sox lineup. He can't hit, he can't run fast enough to steal bases, he can't bunt....he can only field. And, wow, that's what we need another fielder like Ross and Drew.

So this Tanaka character has been the best pitcher in baseball. This far, he's ROY, CY, and a good MVP candidate. I really and truly love the way he pitches, and his style actually allows for longevity. If he was a max effort guy, he'd sit mid 90s, but he doesn't have to be. He plods along at 88-91 and when he needs it, reaches back for 94-95. He locates to all 4 quadrants of the zone without a worry about pitching inside. He can cut it, sink it and run it. He can also leave it straight. His arm action is so similar that you cannot lay off the splitter, which is probably the best in the world right now. He throws a true plus slider and a show me curve that he can locate. He's been truly spectacular, and really the only reason why we're in a playoff chase at all

Phelps tosses a gem. Good to see. We somehow have cobbled together a solid rotation after losing CC, Pineda, and Nova. Pineda isn't expected back until August. CC is out another month. There is no doubt that we need another front line starter. But for now, we're holding the fort

I told you he would. He couldn't pitch under pressure or in NYS.

He has cut down his walks and reduce the HR allowed, otherwise he's still the same. Maybe he's healthy now. He was always injured with the Yankees.

We'll find out tonight......maybe he will revert to his old ways when he faces his old friends in Red and Lester goes out there and pitches a shutout or comes close.

BTW, the thing that pisses me off so much about Hughes is that he is doing one thing differently, and voila, the ball stays in the yard. When we faced him, his fastball was almost exclusively 2 seam. He's throwing a sinker up there now, instead of that straight 4 seam homer ball. Rothschild couldn't have thought of that? Hey, this kid has great stuff, but cant keep the ball in the yard, let's 2 seam him and see if it works?

This is a bit misleading. He threw some sinkers, which is different than what he did with the Yanks. But he was still mostly going with the four seamer that day, as he has all season.

I was just wondering if he had approached 30 starts and 200 innings in Japan.

I never think that spending huge money on long term deals ( especially with pitchers ) is a good idea.

It looks like the Yankees made a good move grabbing this guy.
