^ Thanks for sharing Palodios ... you just gave me a belly laugh. Maybe he agreed to a 1 year deal.

I wouldn't say they "land" him as much as "Got stuck with" him.

Now tell us all how you really feel. Relax man ... If the report is true he is now a Red Sox ... treat him with respect.

I honestly thought they would of brought Salty back. But i didnt see this coming. A 37 year old catcher worries me a little when the backup will be David Ross at his age. The young guys will probably get a lot of work this year. But a one year deal makes sense for him so its a wait and see.

I didn't realize he is so high maintenence. I found something on line where he thanked the 2006 White Sox for "putting up with him" after they won the WS.

My most recent memory is him gushing about Daniel Nava and how hard he worked to get where he did this year (in a post season game when he was in the Fox studios etc). Sounds like they are good friends.

If they come to terms with him, having 2 veteran catcher like he a Ross will be a good thing IMO.

Pierzynski walked eleven times last season, and I believe two of those were intentional. I would have preferred Hanigan and his .359 OBP.

Sox apparently value their prospects. In retrospect we should have offered salty a QO

Makes sense for the Sox. He hits righties pretty well, still has good power, good defensively. They have him and Ross platooning, with Lavarnway as the emergency 3rd guy. This is the bridge to the Vazquez/Swihart era, which, I assume, the FO is very bullish on.

Works for me.

Confirmed as a one year deal.

perfect .... I had a feeling that they were high on Vasquez ... do not be surprised if we see Vazquez in July

Not at all ... Salty would have accepted the QO and we would be paying him 14.1M to provide lousy defense.

I think most fans would have preferred Hanigan ... I am sure that our FO tried to make it work with him but sometimes all the pieces don't fit. I would have preferred Hanigan on a 3 year deal but perhaps Cincy wanted too much in return for him

We seemed to be quite okay last year. "Lousy" is a stretch. below average i would say.

I'm beginning to learn we don't agree much!

No problem about agreeing or disagreeing ... It is quite clear that our FO did not value Salty ... if they did he would have been signed don't you think? They could have had Salty back on a 3 year deal with a place for Vasquez in 2015 when Ross retires.

Ive seen it is a 1 yr deal, anyone know how much it is?

That will be interesting. He earned what 7.5M last season. I am thinking 1 year at 6M

Ajs one of those "he's an *******, but he's our ******* so" kinda guys.

Had a guy like that here. Drove me nuts when he was on the other team, cracked up laughing when he joined my team.

Also it's a one year deal and now there is a great platoon situation with AJ and Ross. I'm fine with the deal. If for some reason he becomes a problem he's easy to cut loose.

The Reds probably want too much for Hanigan. Plus they have Vazquez and Swihart a couple of years away. AJ hits well in Fenway, and is a better game caller than Salty.

Yes it will be interesting to see what he gets. I think the FO made their offer to Salty and he either priced himself out of here or waited too long. Id say he priced himself out of here in my opinion. As far as A.J. goes i hope he stays healthy as well as Ross might me a better platoon than Salty/Ross. Also as something to mention both AJ and Ross are only signed thru 2014 to lead the way for the youth. If its a 1 yr 6M or up to 8.5 deal id be ok with that.

I thought A.J. wouldnt be a good clubhouse guy but i seen where he won that award for sportsmanship last year so this may be a win win.

8 million ? Ew. I was hoping for 4.

yeah ... Ew is right but it is only for 1 year ... seems high to me

Amazing surfing the chat groups how many posters "hate" AJ without really knowing why. Fact is he is liked by players on the teams he played for. Ortiz likes him --from the Twins. Peavy must like him--from the White Sox. Gomes had the same rep when he came here.

I saw a video of AJ scoring on a sac fly in White Sox/Cubs game. He had to bowl over the Cubs catcher, Barrett, to score. Barrett got up, took a swing at AJ, and started a brawl. AJ just moved away. Barrett was thrown out of the game. Good play by AJ.

You can't deny there is some hostility towards the Red Sox outside of NE. Much of it generated by the media based in NY. The Yankee rivalry a factor.

AJ will fit right in in Boston. The hope is he and Ross can stay healthy. Now they have to re-sign Nap.
