And getting Beltran and letting Granderson go allows us to get a pick in the sup round and lose the second rounder

If they plan to reload, it would be a good time to just toss away a bunch of early draft in the same year.

Well Beltran has been trying to sign with the Yankees each time he was a free agent. I guess he'll finally get his wish. Would've preferred him in 2005 (or even 2012), but oh well.
he was the holdup that first time around..back then wanted no part of what playing here brings...

That is a good point ... never thought of that ... they will only have to forfeit the pics they have that year ... so 4 FA signings you are only forfeiting your first 4 picks for that year .. rounds 1-4?

Who do they pursue after Beltran though? Stephen Drew for 2B is the only name that makes sense, but he will probably want to stick at short. No relievers have received QOs. Choo and Ellsbury no longer fit. They don't want Santana, and Tanaka/Garza won't cost picks.

Yankee's now making Beltran #1 priority. That's great but I'm surprised their not making any moves for pitching.

They can add all the bats they want but if they dont shake up the picthing staff their f***ed again next year.

it seems like all the SP's are waiting for tanaka to be signed

anyone who wants the yankees in the conversation should wait

I don't get this justification at all. It is still very early -- the only players to have signed this early have been seriously overpaid, ie Peralta, Ruiz, McCann, and Vargas.

What?
back when they first courted Beltran, around the time he was leaving the Stros' /prior to signing with the Mets..he was reluctant to sign with the Yanks..

I don't remember that, but either way, before signing with the Mets he contacted the Yankees and was willing to sign for a discounted rate. Quite clearly he wanted to be a Yankee.

Yeah they lost their 1st rounder in addition to the pool money from it. The draft is trickier now with a penalty for spending overslot.

at this point I would have to question what I thought seriously overpaid was

IMO it's just the cost of doing business in the FA world

that's the story your buddy mike was selling on wfan [/quote that Beltran discount offer was only "alleged"....don't get me wrong, i have zero issues with Beltran as a potential Yankee(outside of age)...he's certainly still a good player..and as for The Sports Pope....if was holding a mil, i wouldn't buy what that pompous ass was selling

Beltran expected to sign with NY. Yankees offering 2 yrs, Carlos wants 3. Regardless, this is expected to get done. Throw him in LF and get r done. That allows Grandy to move on and gives our kids some breathing room and time to mature in the minors. We have 4 solid OF prospects in the upper levels, but all 4 struggled in 2013 in hopes that one of them would make an impact in 2013.

If Beltran comes in' date=' does Soriano DH?[/quote']

I'm guessing IF we get beltran for RF

Ichiro and part of his 6.5 gets traded/ dumped somewhere

Beltran and McCann would be a great start for the Yankees, but they still haven't filled any of their rotation holes.
the posting situation looks to be holding that up...

no doubt jeet where tanaka ends up will be huge

TUESDAY: Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports tweets that MLB and NPB officials are meeting today to discuss the new posting system. Baseball America's Ben Badler adds that teams are operating under the assumption that an agreement will be reached, and Tanaka will be available (Twitter link). Badler feels some news will be announced in the near future.

Jete, I think Beltran is a better fit for your club than ours. We have a pretty set outfield for the most part, four pretty good ones and maybe five if he resign Ells ( a distant possibility at the moment). We need to resign Napoli, get our catching set and pick up another reliever and utility infielder. That should be our shopping list unless Ben has a big trade in mind, which, I hope, does not I include taking on a big contract of some yahoo who underachieves or is injury prone.

Jacko my friend, ******** someone else, not me. Your team is lying in the weeds ready to make a move on Ellsbury at the last minute with a wad of cash. If my Red Sox colleagues haven't learned their lesson from the Damon and Teixiera capers last decade, it means they haven't learned that much about the Yankees.

Posted
They don't need Ellsbury. Ells is a top of the order kind of guy. They have one, granted Ells is an upgrade. They need power hitters. Last yrs power outage was f***ing epic. You bring in Beltran and move him to LF in YS, which is one of the toughest LF's to play in baseball due to its vast expanse of territory. Soriano has the arm for RF, but not the innate skills. In NY, it doesn't matter. Anything over his head is off the wall or gone. I'd assume we go with an OF of Beltran, Gardner, and Soriano. Keep Ichiro as the 4th OFer. Release Vernon Wells. We need another 2 infielders. One for 2b (be it Cano or someone else) and a 3b/ss.

Rumor has it that Tanaka will like to play for the Red Sox. Apparently he has a group of friends who live in the greater Boston area and his father had attended MIT.

I heard a rumor that Tanaka is part of a Japanese cult that worships Koji Uehara.
