2013/14 College Basketball thread

Not sure how many people watch college basketball, but figured I'd start this thread anyway. This class of players is absolutely insane and some NBA teams are going to be very lucky next season. Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and Julius Randle all have superstar potential and showed it off tonight. This is going to be a very exciting season.

 

Wiggins won the battle of the top 2 recruits vs Parker tonight.

Love that Kentucky lost with all the hype on their team. Shocked that Duke lost, didn't see that coming.

 

Also, this UConn team could be better than the one that won the NC in 2011. Napier and Boatright combine to be one Kemba Walker, but this year, we actually have size down low. Amida Brimah is going to be a great NBA player one day, but I hope he realizes that he has to stay at least 3 years. He's still very very raw. He needs to develop.

Kentucky played a very good team and barely lost and actually beat themselves. the free throw shooting was pathetic. Once that team starts playing consistent, they are going to be scary good. The Talent on that team is ridiculous.

Team chemistry is a big issue as well. When that goes up, they'll begin to win better quality games.

Feeling good about picking Harvard, Dayton, ND State, and SF Austin. Went 15-1 on Thursday, only loss was Arizona State vs Texas. Yesterday, things turned south. Duke blew it (had them in NC game), then I incorrectly picked Providence and Oklahoma State among others.

On a side note, UConn's in the Sweet 16! UConn is one of the best teams in the nation when it comes to knowing how to lean on one player. Shabazz is doing that for us now, while Kemba did it in 2011.

On a more serious note, Napier's mom is a complete moron. How do you name a kid "Shabazz"? Really? He also has a sister names Titana. So Shabazz and Titty. They have a brother named Timmie, although all 3 have different last names.

Moron fits you much better. You've actually managed to make 99% of bigots look better by comparison. You defy all known adjectives, because they are too kind to apply here.

 

In fact, I'm going to root for UCONN and Shabazz to win the championship. He probably had to deal with drooling idiots like you, on top of the obstacles he was born in to. He could go out a two-time NCAA champion, on top of getting a bachelors from UConn.

I think its funny that last two college basketball seasons have had a star player named Shabazz.. Last year it was Shabazz Muhammed who is now on T-Wolves in NBA. lol

I'm not going to defend Jacko's comment. I don't think that he meant to say anything racist. Although, I suppose I could be wrong. There is a cultural difference that not all of us are in tune with and understand.

 

I remember 12 years ago when my Daughter was born. We decided to name her "Sasha". This because her Mother is from Russia ( where the name is somewhat common ).

 

Sasha is the nick name for Alexander and for Alexandra in Russia. But very few Americans are aware of this. Even my Mother questioned naming my Daughter this.

 

I see this naming as similar.

 

And it is a non-issue.

I could accept that mistake, if he didn't write anything after saying it was a stupid name. However, he mocks the name as, "Titty," calls the mother stupid, and then brings up that her children all have different last names. If it looks like a duck.....

 

The funny thing is that Jacko didn't know what he was really saying. "Haha, look at this unwed, pregnant by three different men mother! She named her kids in a language I don't understand, but because they sound like Ebonics, I'll laugh at them!"

 

If anyone was curious, Shabazz was the last name of Malcolm X. It means "a people mighty and glorious in Arabic." Titana is a Greek name, and has even been used by Shakespeare in "A Midnight Summers Dream."

Jacko has a mean streak sometimes that makes me think he may have a confederate flag tattooed to his forehead, however, it's usually done in a joking manner (stupid but not malicious imo) so i think we don't need to turn the faux pas into anything bigger RJ.
