Halifax, Nova Scotia, Great White North.

Are you a transplant? Sounds like a worthy trip with my wife.

How did you become a Sox fan?

There are tons of Sox fans here in Halifax and throughout Nova Scotia. We're much closer to Boston than we are to Toronto.

I can attest to this. The Bruins tend to have more penetration into the Maritimes than the Sox, but it's definitely been known to happen.

Do you pick up NESN?

Not directly. One of the cable providers here offers the Extra Innings package for about $30 a month extra. Rogers Sportsnet carries a lot of Sox games on regular cable. I subscribe to MLB.TV.

How does that work? Do you get the Sox games via MLB.TV?

I get every major league game except for a small number that are blacked out. The only downside on the Sox games is that you get the NESN feed sometimes and the other team's feed sometimes.

I got the chills just reading that, not to mention a crick in my neck. It was 84 today in sunny Southern California.

LOL Fred. The weather here is very similar to Boston's, except about 6-8 degrees colder, on average. If there's rain in Boston we usually get it the next day. The storm systems move right up the eastern seaboard to us.

I think it could be a good thing to get the other teams feed as you get to hear their perspective on the Sox

I have to hand it to you and others Bellhorn who can live in an endure and hopefully thrive in a cold weather climate. As you might know I lived my first 14 years in Queens and I can tell you right off I didn't like the cold then either. Some people love it but give me the sun and warm weather any time. Now if only we had the Red Sox out here.....oh, I take that back. The fans out here don't deserve them.

By moving Dempster, not only do you remove one capable #4/5 starter from your team, you are also hurting the bullpen by taking Workman out of it. Find me a player coming off 9 innings of 0 ERA pitching in the postseason, and I will find you a contract that exceeds 7 million dollars.

Dempster is a 14m per year #5/6 pitcher. That's pretty awful bang for the buck. As for Workman, until he proves himself, I still see him as a long relief man, fill in for tired pithers occasional pinch starter. It would be nice if he could work his way into the starting rotation, but he'd need a slot to work into.

Sooner or later there will be an injury and he'll get a shot. But I don't count him in the rotation for 2014 yet. I still think the Red Sox need one really solid #2 with the potential to turn into a #1. The way Lester did for us. That guy might be Tanaka. Or I could be wrong. But Tanaka won't cost prospects, he'll count less against the salary cap than a traditional free agent, and he won't cost prospects like a Scherzer or a David Price.

Something to think about! Pitching depth wins baseball games period and in the long grind of a 162 game season, you really can't have enough.

Right now our opening day rotation is Lester, Lackey, Peavey, Buchholz, Doubront and we have a number of rookies and guys like Workman who can fill in for the inevitable injuries to guys like Peavy and Buchholz. We don't need another starter from the free agent pool right now unless that guy gives us something one of our guys isn't
