It looks like the Sox think they can have fun with Sanchez off speed and breaking stuff. But in looking for it they are making themselves vulnerable to his FB which is really nothing to write home about tonight. If they would sit FB instead they would be ripping the cover off the ball on those instead of sitting for breaking balls and getting beaten by the FB. Pitch count is still up there though.

Beckett had a 3.38 ERA that year.

Lowell batted .238 with 8 HR's and a contract paying him a boat load of money at the time. Beckett was ok but having blister issues ... only started 29 games.

Mike Lowell deserves some credit too. His 2007 was pretty friggin amazing if I remember correctly.

.324/.378/.501 .879 OPS and a WS MVP. Not too shabby.

Only 29? Isn't that right around what you'd expect from a starter? And Mike Lowell hit .320 with 120 RBI's and won a WS MVP for us

You said Beckett had a terrible year. 3.38 ERA is not a terrible year.

and with the sox he hit .280+ and 20+ HR's. Your point?

Had some nice facial hair too. Not Gomes territory but not bad for an elder statesman type.

Probably none, given the fact that Sanchez was pedestrian (and missed nearly a full season with elbow injuries) considering he pitched in the NL East and was outperformed by Beckett in most of the years he was under Marlins control anyways. Hanley ended up imploding in Miami. What makes you think he could've handled the Boston spotlight?

This is all hindsight anyways.

No doubt about that it being all hindsight ... I am just giving the Sox and the Marlins props for recognizing two amazing talents.

178.2 IP of 3.38 (118 ERA+) ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 29 starts even though he had some serious blister issues. Sounds like a good year to me.

Come on Sox...pick out a good pitch and lace it. WMB is one of the few that has been looking FB. Hope more of them start doing the same. I really don't think Sanchez FB is that great tonight. But a number of the Sox hitters are trying to time his off speed stuff and getting beaten by the FB for it.

Top of my head is gonna come off...they are not even seeing these pitches. Sanchez pitch count is up but he really has them flummoxed so far.
