Lackey continues to amaze me.

Makes me think kinder thoughts about Tommy John, that's for sure. (John pitched for the Yankees in the 70's-80's and I hated him.)

I don't care if it was hit soft, take some f***ing pitches. He ways does that s***, not just today.

The first pitch is often the best pitch to swing at though.

Well in truth, you can look up a study done by Stanford University that took all the results for all pitches in all counts for four full seasons. The worst count to swing from a hitter result standpoint is 0-0. However if you are guessing and guess right and have got a pitch in your wheelhouse I just don't think you can let that go by. For some guys that is middle middle. For others it is belt high inside or just below the belt.

AL hitters are hitting .336 this year when they swing at the first pitch. Ellsbury was hitting .400 swinging at the first pitch, before today's game.

Boy Cherries must be grinning from ear to ear every day this year.

Except when thoughts of Hanrahan, Bailey and Buchholz's current status enter his head.

Do you mean AB's where the hitter swings at the 0-0 pitch or do you mean instances where the hitter actually puts the ball in play 0-0?
