Would have to drag him out of the lineup. Truth of it is, Pedey does so much with his glove that even when he is not hitting he is run. They are just runs the other team is not scoring

Pedroia need a day off soon.

I think the whole team can use a day off. If it wasn't Lester pitching I'd say we leave Texas a day early, give them a win and don't waste our pitchers arms on them. I couldn't get the team out of that hellhole fast enough.

(Not because it's in the state of Texas but because they keep beating us)

The only off day they have this entire month is May 13th. Pedey will be fine.

Napoli is Pissed!

My nightmare road trip for the Sox would be Tampa, Texas, Oakland and Seattle. Awful places for the Sox to play.

You can question Pedey batting 3rd, since he hasn't shown any power. But Farrell likes speed and OBP at the top, and you can't argue with that. Napoli and Papi are getting plenty of RBI opportunities. Pedey and Middlebrooks could use a day or 2 off.

They'll be all right as long as their pitching holds up. Lackey and Doubront look shakey. They need to give Webster a shot. The other 3 guys look solid.

At some point maybe we will take off the rose colored glasses on the number of innings we are forcing out of Taz and Ueh.

This 4 relievers per game routine will ultimately kill the BP. Starters have to go more than 5 innings.

Or they have to use a reliever more than one inning.

Koji fastball is great with painting corners, but he can't afford to leave it in the zone to hitters. Get ahead carefully and finish off with that great split.

This is a yearly problem with the Red Sox. Overtaxing the bullpen. Low pitch counts for starters limits their innings on good nights and wastes the BP. One inning appearances for relievers uses too many relievers in a game.

I don't understand why we're using the Japanese pitchers in a game we're losing. Only Wilson/Mortensen pitched in yesterday's abortion, and Bailey hasn't pitched in a long time. Furthermore Miller used to be a starter (albeit a really bad one) so surely he could have thrown more than 12 pitches. We should save the Japanese pitchers for a game we're narrowly winning.

Can't ask for better out of the two guys at the top of the rotation. This year it is more that we just don't have anybody that can go two. However I think Farrrell is just going to have to bite the bullet at some point and try it as these guys are not going to make it going one inning per night.

Who knows what Frankie will be when he comes back but you would think he could go two. Probably won't though cause Farrell will want to move him into Miller's spot.

Too much bullpen night after night. These guys aren't machines. They are going to get hit if they are thrown out there 2 or 3 games in a row. It's the folly of pitch counts. They are locked in a regimen that is counterproductive and consumes a bullpen. Heck, you throw 4 guys out there in 4 innings, one of them's bound to get hit and take you out of a game--like tonite.

In the old days, Lackey would be in the bullpen until strong enough to start. Now the FO draws a sharp line between starters and relievers.

Maybe Farrell simply isn't allowed to pitch a reliever more than 1 inning. The FO dictates a lot of this stuff these days. Pretty stupid, isn't it? They throw twice as many pitches in the BP just to heat up.

The very very first thing I said about the pen and Farrell weeks ago was that Farrell was stuck on this one inning per reliever thing. That night he tried Mortenson for two and got away with it. But Mortenson really cannot go into any high leverage situations late and I don't think Farrell would try Mortenson for two now....not the way he is going. Farrell has got to see that there is no way his relievers survive this way though. So he has got to try two with somebody. I really don't think he has a choice. Anything else is wishful thinking.

Rangers Park and Oakland has been absolute nightmare for the Red Sox to play at over the past 5 season. I wonder if anyone can dig up the ugly records.

Forsyth can but he's somewhere in St. Lucia enjoying life right now. We can bother him when he gets back.

it is pretty amazing to me that we got off to this hot start with Pedroia playing so far below par. IMO, he has been the guy that makes this team go for several years already. When he is hot, we win a lot. He has been really cold, and we are winning a lot. He will turn it around, and in the words of Ortiz, someone is going to pay.

As for this weekend, Texas is a really strong team and we have played competitively against them with the bottom of our rotation (probably the weakest aspect of our team). They have not blow our doors off. Last year, they would have pummeled us.
