I said 2011 Beckett, not Beckett overall. I guess you just missed that part though ;)

I did miss that. But he certainly wasn't an ace in 2011. He was much closer to an ace in 2007 than in 2011. He didn't touch 200 innings, and completely bombed in September.

Plus, I think Buch's year in 2010 was better than Beckett's 2011 year, and give me Lester 08 and Lester 10 over Beckett 2011.

I'd take the lower WHIP from 2011. If he didn't vomit on himself in September, he may have gotten CY consideration and the Sox would have been in the postseason. Frankly, the pitching has been mediocre for a while.

I would say that Buccholz 2010 or Lester 2008-2010 are comparable or better. Hell, 2008 Dice-k received more cy young votes than 2011 Beckett.

Beckett is the most overrated player in all of baseball.

Okay I'll have to agree with you on some of that. He was very ace-like between april and september. He was only 21 outs from 200 innings, His ERA+ was actually higher in 2011 than it was in 2007. Though I will admit that he was more dominant in 07, and was a major piece of the world series that year as well.

2010 Buch was great besides the 6.2 SO/9, if he could consistently give us a season like that one, that's what the sox need from him. They don't need him to become a #1, they need a real #1.

Greg Maddux was consistently right around 6.2 K/9 for his whole career, with a few years more than that. Still, he finished his career right around 6.1. If you can get the ground balls and keep it in the park like Buch did in 2010 you don't have to be a strike out machine. And since I always leave this as a disclaimer, in no way am I comparing Maddux with Buch, just saying you don't necessarily have to be a power pitcher to pitch at the top of a rotation.
