Baileys biggest asset to any team is that he stays injured enough not to pitch that often....a full season of Bailey would likely be the ruin of any team.

I am actually surprised they did not send Jeter against that pop gun arm of Ells even as shallow as he was...and even as shallow as he was Ells STILL did not get the ball past the pitchers mound

I'm sorry to be so negative... I just got home from a 12 hour workday, turned on the game (only because I saw the score was 3-1 and thought I could see a win for once) and saw a HR. Geez.

:lol:same happened to me E1.

WOW. Melancon got out of it!! My head hurts from face palming when I saw the Sox take out a guy with a 7 ERA and replace him with a 6 ERA guy

I still would have wanted Bresloe against Granderson to start that inning. The only benefit to us might be that we now should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bailey is a total dickhead...cannot close for this team and should not close for it even next year. Pull somebody out of the system and allow him to close for a year. Bailey is a complete fail. The team will just go into deep depression every time they see that fat f*** warming up...and why are so many of our pitchers fat f***s by the way...so many of them just look like blubber balls....not big big guys that also carry a loota' but just blubber balls. Sick if it.

He should have stuck with Breslow against Granderson. He has a tough time with lefties.

Guys, don't forget Papelbon blew saves too. I imagine one of the reasons he left town so quickly is because he was embarrassed by that blown save against the Orioles on game 162 of last year. He also had stretches where he just drove fans crazy, serving up high fastballs to guys.

fans and media created the monster that is the closer. How dare you make them into platoon relievers!

Bailey doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with Papelbon.

Some still saying that closers are overrated.

We need to understand that elite closers do not grow in trees. We had one and let him go regardless all the collateral issues that this move caused (Bard, Aceves, Melancon, Bailey, etc.)

I wonder how many wins cost us this move this year...

The more I think about it, the more I think the Sox will have to renovate the entire FO and will likely resist the temptation to spend much of the money they got out of the trade until they have done so. These are still the same guys from the Theo era just sans Theo. Can't see that working.

As for Bailey...he is a walking Butterball Turkey. Every time the Sox see him they will think it is Thanksgiving and the season must be over.

To many games lost by the starters to look at any component of the bullpen as that big a deal at this point. The "strength" of this team is middle relief...big deal. When you lose 93 games and have starters like ours, you simply cannot look into the bullpen to find a relevant number of lost games. The preponderance of these games are lost almost as the are started with few still games by the time the bullpen gets to them.

Or maybe he left town because the FO never made him an offer or gave him any indication that he was going to get an offer.

Papelbon has been as steady as could be for 7 years-- consistently excellent.

We had the worst bullpen in the league in late and close situations.

We would've had Reddick as an outfielder and that's something around 3 more wins. Bard would still start though and Aceves and Melancon suck regardless of the role. However that extra 13 mil. would have meant either no Papi or no Ross, and you're stuck paying 13 mil a year to a closer when you don't have a competing team.

What is to be lamented is Lester had a chance to be the Sox' first pitcher in a long time to win double digit games for 5 consecutive years. He was in line to do that, going 5 and giving up 0 earned runs but Bailey had to blow the save.

And Melancon is dealing right now. Incredible

Pap's line with Philly

2.20 ERA 69 IP 1.8 WAR 90% SV%

Where's the regression gentlemen? where?

Our starters are now 27th out of 30 teams....27th out of 30....looking elsewhere at this point is a distraction but not much more.

He is as steady and reliable as there is among closers.
