Like the majority of them.

Mid 4 to 5 ERA....10-12 wins.

I take it you're not one of the odd year/even year believers?

"Oh 38, so sorry. He's still old as hell and is a shell of his former self. Ichiro is horrible, that's why you got him for two C level pitchers."-SemperFi Sox

"If I thought you were capable of taking responsibility for what you say, I'd look forward to having you eat your words."-Me

Despite his absence, I'll still claim it's lunchtime for SemperFi Sox.

So he hit 2 cheap homeruns off a s***** pitcher tonight, he's still a shell of what he used to be.

Geez....Rays sweep and O's take 2 outta' 3. We were never going to catch those teams. Not only are they not weakening....they are doing what we need to do and we are doing the opposite.

He's an All-Time great who was bored stiff on a crappy team in Seattle -- a team that plays in a pitcher's ballpark. The Yankees got him for nothing and don't even have to pay his salary. It was a typical smart move by the Yankees taking a chance that a playoff bound team would rejuvenate the guy. It has. He can still run, field and throw with the best, and now he is hitting too.

Edit: Our GM brought us Marlon Bryd. Jacked up on PEDs he still sucked.

Although I said this the other night some of these striking differences sort of provide another example of the same thing. Some teams have made moves that look like they actually think they are in this thing. We have made moves that were just sort of there to be made.

The difference between rejuvenating Byrd and rejuvenating ichiro is light years. Even the way the Yanks have handled Ichiro makes you wonder if the Sox would have been capable of it. I hate to say it but this is the first time in so long I feel like we are just outclassed on so many fronts.

The whole way the FO has handled this season from beginning to now makes you wonder if they actually threw in the towel before the first pitch was thrown.

Cherington is obviously in way over his head.

Ichiro just proved any left handed hitter can hit in Yankee stadium. The Yankees have been doing this for 50 years--getting old washed up left handed hitters from other teams and making them useful in Yankee stadium. Remember Johnny Mize?

I always maintained that Cashman ate Theo's lunch, and he did outclass Theo on negotiating trades and acquisitions. Theo played into Cashman's hands time after time. Bumbling Benny doesn't even realize that his lunch has been eaten.

You remember the Big Cat?

You really do have to wonder what JH is thinking having installed so many place holders in management positions. V was an obvious placeholder. BC may have been less obvious at the time but clearly we have to perceive him as a placeholder at this point.

Although just thinking it is hard to do only because JH has never made it seem like you can untie the two of them but maybe LL's days are numbered after all and JH is leaving things so that the next guy can pick his GM. Maybe LL moves sideways or something like that or is moved completely out but I can no longer bring myself to think that the Sox WANT BC in the GM post or ever wanted him there.

The Peter Principle is alive and well in the Red Sox organization.

The media would have you believe Cherington is at the same level Epstein was. Not true.

Epstein was a VP of player personnel, one step up from GM. He was promoted after his gorilla suit tantrum. Lucchino moved over to VP of marketing, etc. Cherington doesn't have the same authority as Theo, and shouldn't--as a first year GM. But the media ignores these differences. He never should have led the managerial search as a newly appointed GM--not with his lack of experience.

The mistake Henry made was not replacing Epstein by an experienced guy at the same VP level. Somebody from the outside with clout, free of all the infighting. Somebody, as I've said, like John Hart. But they screwed it up. The outsider they brought in was the Manager-- a lower level without any clout. What happened is predictable.

How a guy like Henry, who has made a zillion dollars in hedge funds, can screw up a ball team with the wrong moves, is beyond me. And Lucchino was no help, either. These guys completely swung and missed.
