This guy has not had to break a sweat against us.

101 pitches through 6 IP isn't exactly cruising. It's pretty pathetic, though, that the Sox can't even muster a couple hits. But they've hit the ball right on the nose quite a few times and have nothing to show for it.

Lav > Salty.

I'd love to see Lavs stay up here. He's hit both balls today on a line, and also taken a walk. He's always going to have a really high OBP (.360+), which is what this team needs to get back to.

Hell, I would like to think this game is something of an anomaly but it is not. We have had four or five equally infuriating games this year. This is just not a good baseball team...there I said it. I have beat around the bush for months now talking about how poorly constructed they are and how ill matched these ballplayers are within a team concept and I think it is time to acknowledge that the result is that they are just not a good baseball team.

Look at how all that speed coming back has changed the way the team plays....they are able to use that speed just about a tiny bit more than when they did not have it. That is what makes the combination of Ells and Crawford such a waste.

Beat Verlander 2/3 times.

Get shut down by any pitcher who can't throw more than 90.

On the way to their sterling just over 500 record. And that last game was not vintage Verlander.

dude. i'm not saying they're good because they beat verlander. I'm pointing out how they beat the best pitcher in the game 2/3 times, and lose to complete s*** bottom-of-the-dumpster pitchers consistently.

It seems as though any pitcher that has little or no scouting reports on them in the big leagues can throw anything and we just stand there befuddled.

Actually I think it is the other side of that equation that is really hurting the Sox. Now that there are extensive books out on these hitters based on what they are doing this year, very few pitchers are making the kinds of mistake pitches to them that they need to hit. We have a bunch of hitters that chase the low outside slider constantly, from both sides of the plate and some that are even susceptible to the cutter or the change on the outer third of the plate.

There is no need for a pitcher not to go after our hitters. Without Ortiz, we don't have any established power hitters. Yes, WMB is strong, but without AGon hitting the long ball, we don't have anyone that scares a pitcher.

We have other guys that can hit HR's but the best hitters on the roster by a long long way are Ortiz and Pedey at least as far as overall hitting skills and power. The rest of them have some pretty big flaws.

Clearly this is the .500 team we all know they are.

4 or 5 game win streaks followed by losing streaks. I mean, c'mon. Lester gives us 8ip 3er and we can't do s*** to help him out. Tomorrow we'll score 7 but allow 9. Then we'll score 9 allow 0. Then allow 9 and score 1. Up down down down up up down down up up up down down down down down.... .500 TEAM!
