Who said anything about Lillibridge?

I admit I got a bit of Salty-mania last year' date=' but considering how the pitching staff mysteriously wilts into nothingness when he is behind the plate, I've been advocating selling high on him for most of this season.[/quote']

They wouldn't get very much for him.

He cant hit. He cant catch. He cant call a game.

He throws ok...and he hits a HR every now and then. Its not like he is a secret weapon that nobody knows about, they wouldn't get very much for him.

He's not even a backup catcher candidate for other teams. Shoppach has more trade value than him.

Just far enough inside to leave Youk nowhere to put that. This is such a tough park to pitch in when the RH hitter does not fear you. Did not see Youks foot anywhere near in the bucket on that one

In Punto's first two months here, he got six hits.

In Pedro's first three games here, he got seven hits.

Pedro-sanity!

Now that was a terrible pitch to Youk. Why even go there...you have already showed him inside and gotten away with it....so all you needed to do was miss that pitch by a couple of inches to have youk touching all four.....stupid

Adam Dunn got 4/$56mm. He's a guy who will hit you around 30-40 HR a season as a 1B/DH, but K a boatload of times and hit for a low average.

A catcher who will hit you 30+ HR, hits for a low average, and K's a ton is just as valuable. You could definitely get a good return for Salty.

An .800 OPS and 17 HR from a catcher is respectable, even though his overall game is not so great. If he's cost controlled, even better. He won't get much back, but maybe they could pull back an undeveloped pitching prospect with a #4 ceiling for him.

Cook is lucky not to be down a run cause he certainly grooved at least one of those to youk....who just did not get it out.

Youk is still a .900 OPS player... Shame on the Red Sox for not trying everything possible to get him going and increase his value before the trading deadline.

I was thinking about this earlier, but it isn't a fair comparison. Salty may get to 30 home runs, but if he has a .280 OBP, it doesn't meant a whole lot.

Adam Dunn has a .356 OB% with 28 HR. Dunn is on pace for 54 HR this year.

Salty can't hit or catch.....and when did he ever hit 30+ HR? His career high is 17...which is what he has right now......and hes been atrocious lately.

Thats a terrible comparison.

He had 165 PA's. They put Gonzalez in RF for a bunch of games. They tried.

To your point Pal......one thing I don't like about the way Salty gives his pitcher a target is that he does not really move him in or out. He sort of sets up just inside of middle or just outside of middle even with a pitcher like Cook who he should be showing the glove to on the black and Salty simply does not do that enough even with a guy like Cook.

If you are the catcher you cannot expect the pitcher to aim for your wrist or some damn thing....ya gotta put the glove where you need the ball to be.

Such a breath of fresh air to see the lineup the way it was intended... Hopefully Pedroia can come back and be himself on thursday... This team is going to start wrecking pitchers. The Red Sox, if the pitching can stabilize and Bard and Baliey can come back successfully, will be a major force in the AL.

OBP is different, you're right.

But Salty has always been a big HR guy. When has he ever played 135 games? He has hit 17 in 71 games to date. He is definitely a 30 HR threat, no question about it.

Probably, but honestly it may have been the best move for the team to have sent Middlebrooks back to Triple A (I'm going to get crushed for saying that) and let Youk try to find his swing without the pressure of the kid sitting on the bench... It might have back fired, but more than likely Youk would have started to hit like he his now, and they would have gotten a nice package back for him.

30+ is where I thought Salty was going when he started swinging for the fences on every pitch.....now even with the start he has had I don't think he will get there. Every pitcher he faces is going to be able to hit that spot that gives him trouble because its actually a pretty big spot.

Like I said earlier, the pitchers don't even appear compelled to move his eye level so chances are not great that they will make a mistake to him that allows him to hit it out.

Best chances he will get from here on out are low outside pitches that are up in the zone that allow him to kick it opposite field batting from the left.

Aaron cook and Fraklin Morales are turning into a pretty good 4-5 combo... Hopefully Lester and Beckett can get their s*** together. I think Buchholz has been fine since the middle of may, it was too bad he had a freak illness that derailed him a little bit.

Based on what?

His 162 game "projection" is 21 HR.

He will not hit 30 HR, and trust me....Ive already won 2, almost 3 of these bets with a member of this board [Ross (20 this year, pending), Agon (30 last year), Agon (25 this year)].
