VA wears those photoshop glasses. Depending on which team a guy plays for he could be in peak shape or old and decrepid.

Of course he is fat and out of shape. Its not even debateable.

Great game, great series, great season by a group of loser has-beens.

Now its time to clean house.

And your glasses, like your boy's are photo shopped and turd colored. Boring.

Your posts are consistently miserable. And your posts do nothing but bring this board down when things are already bad enough. Nice job!

Oh, waste of time, unless someone quotes me, you won't see this because you are a thin-skinned poster and have me on ignore.

If my Dad saw AGo run' date=' he would just call hi a lard ass. He used to call Boomer Scott a lard ass, and he could run laps around AGon. He certainly looks out of shape, and he is one of the slowest runners on the Red Sox. Maybe Orlando Cepeda was slower, but he had two very bad post-op knees when we got him.[/quote']

But his obesity is all muscle, right?

Haven't you seen pictures of him with his shirt off? He is a dead ringer for Arnold during his Mr Universe days.

Some of the things written on tonite's game thread belong in a Groucho Marx book.

The problem this year is that ownership did not do one single thing meaningful as an effort to begin to redress some of the wrongs done to this team....so this season is a reflection of that....this "team" is the same mess it was last year only some of its players are even a little more "sour" for having one more year to stew in their own juices. Just like it brings in glitzy stars as window dressing it brings in a manager to "straighten things out" and then ties his hands.

I fear that the only thing that will work at this point is for Red Sox nation to reject these idiots to the point where they conclude that it is time for them to turn their paper profits into liquid assets and get the hell outta' town.

This is the type of attitude many fans rightfully will begin to express if this team continues to falter. I love how you mention the brand and ownership's responsibility as stewards to protect it. They have taken the desire to grow the brand to the forefront of their focus and put fielding a winning team in the backseat.

When will they realize that all of their economic escapades are soley dependent on fielding a winning team? Somewhere along the line, they lost track of that idea and decided that the equity they had built into the Red Sox brand over the years (winning 2 WS, renovating Fenway, 100 years, etc) would keep the fan base in good spirits if the product on the field was subpar.

There is nothing wrong with promoting these ancillary causes when they are in ADDITION to placing a winning team on the field. This does not even account for the awful off the field issues that continue to consume and follow this team from last year.

^ This. A million times this^.

How many swings and misses has Salty had this weekend? Unbelievable!

My guess is that its the beginning of Salty's collapse again. He did it last year too. Overworked, perhaps. I want to see Lavarnway called up.

I hate when the Red Sox lose, so this season has sucked. But there is NOTHING worse than losing to the NYY. No matter what.

To most of you, have a good night.

I really hope that it is a had cold/flu for AGon and not a stomach flu. I'm thinking of the trainers. They would rather wipe his nose... no?

OK..its the ASB now, and we are a mediocre 43-43 team, 10 games behind the Yankees.

Seriously, isn't it time the FO issued an apology instead of excuses and started doing something positive for the franchise? Its now clear to everyone (I think) that we are going nowhere this year. So why not start taking out the trash?

Hershiser came pretty close to directly questioning AGon's commitment, so it's not just me. He played the game, and he was pretty damn good. His nickname was Bulldog. He probably never left a game for a flu/cold/shits whatever.

Unfortunately, they need to get the trade value up a few of these slugs.

That was actually a much easier search than I anticipated.

If this organization did not have the massive revenue streams they have at their disposal, they would be forced to be more efficient and cognisant with the makeup of their roster. Perhaps, this might actually force them to avoid making the huge mistakes they have made recently.

Take the Tampa Bay Rays for instance. I guarantee you that every ounce of the energy in that front office is focused on the most efficient way of putting a winning team on the field. Why? Because they have no safety stock for the judgment errors this organization has made in recent years. Even if the Rays had something similar to a 100 Years of Fenway type of event to celebrate, it would mean next to nothing to most fans if the team was terrible to watch and an embarrassment off the field.

It truly is amazing what consistent winning will do for a baseball team. Sadly, this organization knew what that feeling was like in the not so distant past.

I do not understand the schedulers here. The sox and Yankees meet 18 times this yr. The first 6 scheduled before the ASB at Fenway. The final 12 after the ASB with 9 of those being in Yankee Stadium. What kind of s*** is that?

I don't really buy the argument that the Red Sox FO brass would rather "build a brand" then field a winning team. It's not like they are not spending money on the team, they just need to do a better job of evaulating talent/medical records before handing out absurd contracts. The reason they had to be light spenders this offseason was the fact that they handed out 2 of the largest contracts in team history in the past year. They have so much money tied up in malcontents, it's not the fact that they arn't trying, it's the fact that they are trying but they suck at their jobs. That's what's concerning. That's why an 185 million dollar team is 43-43 at the all star break. It's funny, people will try to use the injury card to describe why the Red Sox suck this year, but that's ********. The offense is what has really be injured and they are SECOND in runs scored. It's the fact that Jon Lester, and Josh Beckett have been pitching like 3-5 starting pitchers all year. I really like what Buchholz had been doing prior to his problem, and I would expect him to continue to build off of that. Honestly, this is really all Lester and Beckett's fault. If they pitched like they even did last year (not even up to their career years) the Red Sox would be close to first place right now. Period.

Agreed! I've been saying it for weeks now our pitching doesn't have to be all star like. It only has to be average and our offense can win games for us. I'm really hoping Lester and Beckett take a long hard look in the mirror during the all star break. Like I have said before Lester has a lot of good baseball in him. His second last start he had a solid game. He just can't stay consistent.

I still am finding it hard to get down though. As it stands right now we are only 2 and a half games out of a wild card spot. And after the break we open against Tampa who we have played really well against this year. This second half of baseball is where the games really start to matter.

Every organization tries to maintain and grow their brand - it's part of the business of baseball. Where organizations differ is their philosophy and strategy used to grow their brands. Of course outside factors like the market the team plays in have a role in the aggressiveness teams will take.

If you go back and look at the major free agent signings under this organization, a vast majority of them were made to grow the brand in addition to improve the quality of the team on the field.
