This isn't even a valid comparison. Gonzalez and Drew were both on the Sox in 2011 and don't play the same position. Also Drew retired.

It is fair. We save the money we spent on Gonzalez and we could have kept Drew as a backup OF and signed someone cheaper and better than Gonzalez for some other position.

As much as guys have been killing the sox, they have actually put themselves in a good position to make that 1 game playoff. Mostly because the rest of the league has come back to them just as much as they have caught up to the rest of the league. The only team to leapfrop the sox is the Angels, who I think will easily grab the top WC spot since they are continuing to play well and have the personnell to win it all. That second spot is going to be a dog fight. And by dog fight, I mean little wimpy and sickly do fight. Like a 15 yr old Yorkie fighting with a 19 yr old Jack Russell terrier. You're looking at the Orioles, the Tigers, the Jays, the Rays, and the Guardians. The Jays have been decimated in their rotation and will likely hang around the outskirts of the race, but they arent for real. The Guardians completely suck. The Orioles have run out of gas.

The Tigers are unerachieving mostly in their rotation. Fister is now back, which will help and Smyly just got off the DL with his blister issue. Throw in some stability with Albuquerque returning and the Tigers are set up for a run. They are 3 games back of Boston, but they will definitely be in the running come the end

The Rays have been hit by a buzzsaw of injuries as well. And they lack the offensive depth to handle it, especially with their best player being out for 2 months. If Longo doesnt come back, then the Rays are the sexier version of the A's, all pitching, no hit. If Longo comes back, then their lineup instantly get a boost all around and they have a shot.

Okay so now the Mariners get two guys on' date=' then a ball is hit to right field, Ross makes a good throw and Salty mishandles it. 1 2 3 Break![/quote']For a change of pace, Salty will catcch the ball but not apply the tag. Maybe Shoppach can catch the ball.

I'd like a head count of everyone who thought this was a good idea in December 2010.

Oh Boy, the 1 game playoff. Which of our #3 starters coughs up that game? Beckett would pitch well until he hits 100 pitches in the 5th inning at which point his curve turns into a balloon. Lester would give up 4 runs before we come to bat. Buch would be the best choice, but he'll be battling back from another health crisis.

I was one. I thought it was a good idea. I am still not totally convinced Gonzalez is an addition to the long list of Theo's mistakes. One more year of this and its cinched.

And here comes the walkoff loss............

You better hope it isnt Detroit. A 1 game playoff vs Verlander is a tough, tough thing. Tampa might allow 2 runs in the playoff but will struggle scoring 3

This is going to happen again. I cannot believe it.

Mark this road trip. This is the trip that put the final touches on our chances for the year.

Or Price. Or Weaver.

This does mark the 20th time you have predicted our doom this season, but if Figgins beats us twice on a walk off, they should end the season.

I sure am gonna miss Red Sox baseball when they cancel the final 83 games of the year.

The Royals and Twins also have half a season to play.

Yeah' date=' facing Weaver would be rough, especially in LA[/quote']

I would rather the team become sellers at the deadline than get into a dogfight for the second WC.

We get it, we suck. Do we really need a yankoff fan here every game rubbing it in as we lose?

This is for Brennan. I should do what my dad would do and make me look something up when I sounded like an idiot, but I am a kinder, gentler man
