....and I was one of the ones calling for his head.

Hes been good of late, but tonight really opened my eyes.....and I dont get too excited about much.

He was a different pitcher out there tonight. He looked like he belonged out there....he was in total command. If he develops that changeup......I had visions of Johan Santana circa Twins.

whoa comparison to Johan is huge. lets hope he can keep it up.. Bard needs to be in the bullpen period.

Well this may be totally meaningless.....maybe not. I had mentioned this before his start almost as an aside but Frank has been really very good in relief when he comes in to start clean innings. He has had at least two outings before this start where he came in and shut down the opposition for 2-3 innings in a row and did it with ease, much like tonight.

Morales seems very comfortable if he is given the ball and told to go out there and pitch some innings. If he has to come in and bail water right away he does not do as well. So he seemed pretty comfortable out there to me.

Now when he comes into a game in relief with guys on base already he does struggle with that. Remember that outing when he looked really bad? He hit a couple of guys....was all over the place....had no idea where the ball was going and was almost as scary as Bard was.

Not sure what that means long term. Seems to me that guys that can throw like he can from the left side don't grow on trees and the Sox are going to have to explore what it is they really have in Morales.

Not a direct comparison.......I think they could be similar, not necessarily result wise....but makeup wise.

They both throw lefthanded and have funky deliveries with above average velocity and pop with their fastballs. Both have decent breaking balls. Johan has one of the greastest change-ups in baseball history.

If Morales can develop his change-up......he can start.

They (COL) gave up on him as a SP at 22 years old. How great of a story would that be if they (BOS) stumbled upon a gem?

Franklin Morales stats since April 23:

ERA: 2.00

OPSa: .615

BAA: .212

K/BB: 15/5

BABIP: .245

Opening day to April 21:

ERA: 6.35

OPSa: .741

BAA: .304

I think that many of us have been overly harsh on Morales, including me. The statistics show that he has actually been a stalwart in the pen since April 21. These stats do not include today's game in which he was charged with two runs in five innings but was really responsible for one (Pedroia dropped a pop fly that hit him in the glove, and it was the outfielder's ball anyway). Pretty impressive.

amen to that, i hope we have found a LHH pitcher who can eat up 5-7 innings but this being against the Cubbies i really cant rate it.. next team would be the Braves, they do have some more pop in their lineup. lets so how that matchup fairs.

yep and i agree Johan's changeup is as deadly as it gets. but he still got tanked by Yankees. hate that.

Looks like Josh Beckett will be out for a couple of weeks. So the problems surround our pitchers keep on growing. Waiting for Ellsbury and Crawford and the new closer Bailey. Who knows when they'll be back ? Please let me know.
