I can see the Yankees grabbing McCullers if Texas doesn't. They haven't had much luck with 100mph hurlers in the minors lately' date=' though. Betances has been a mess since they signed him and Brackman literally fell apart.[/quote']

Betances hasnt been a mess his whole time. This past yr he has been a mess. Brackman was a mental midget with an injury history

The rule is about the top 10 rounds. The slot recommendations are pooled and if you go over it by 5%' date=' you are fined 100% on the overage. If you go over by 15%, you are fined 1st rounders[/quote']

What happens after the top 10 rounds?

Pretty much impossible' date=' right? I heard the other day that teams lose future draft picks for players they sign way over slot (something like x% over slot, first round pick, y% over slot, first and second round pick, etc.,) Anyone who knows the rules can correct me, but I'm pretty sure they designed the rules specifically to prevent late round, high priced signings.[/quote']

Ignore the source... this is a pretty good breakdown.

0-5% is a 75% tax, 5-10 is the tax and one pick next year. 10-15 is a 100% tax and two picks next year. Anything beyond 15% is 100% tax and next two first round picks.

Teams won't be going over slot.

Hey Jackso. Watch the Yankees not take McCullers.

They'll take Smoral.

I see no reason to ignore Speier. He's one of the better baseball writers in Boston, IMO.

His minor league podcast is really quite good. he was the source of my original info, actually.

I meant the EEI in the address. :)

Suddenly seems that there are a number of good choices for the Sox here. And they have a likely at least MLB middle infielder alread.
