The Sox are sitting around with their thumbs in their asses while their competition makes big moves. Come on Ben, make a move or 2 and stop looking like a complete and utter failure.

There not much to go after. Middling pitching? Woop woop.

& what big moves has our competition made?

Josh Johnson, Matt Garza, Zack Grienke, Cole Hamels?

Justin Upton, Mike Stanton, HanRam, Jose Reyes (potentially)?

There are a lot of big names out there.

Okay, okay.

Upton would be cool, and his value has lowered as of recent and isn't generating a lot of interest so I like that possibility for sure.

HanRam is interesting but requires a lot of $ & Reyes is impossible (let's be serious).

Josh Johnson is struggling in a hitters park. Maybe if we don't give up any of the B's.

Garza... could be good, maybe Bard + X player (None of the Three B's).

I figured BoSox were over Greinke cause he can't handle real teams..., I mean pressure.

Cole Hamels... is apparently requires 5 AAA prospects. Ouch. I've read rumors Phillies will give him is 20m/yr.

I don't know. Some good options but I'm worried of the cost and how much help it'll actually provide for a 48-48 team in the ALE with two pitchers underperforming. I think we need a capable catcher -- as in, one who knows how to call games.

Ichiro and Sanchez are a good start.

Those 2, and you know the Rangers are gonna go huge here soon. We need to make some big deals, whether its to make a postseason run or give up on the year. I'm cool either way, I just don't want us to walk away from 2012 having done nothing.

By the way' date=' sell the farm for Mike Stanton. And I'm not kidding. That's Manny Ramirez 2.0 right there. He'll mishit 35 bombs a year at Fenway.[/quote']

in what universe would the Marlin's ever trade Stanton? They wouldn't even listen to offers.

I absolutely agree. I think we should sell the farm for a top defensive catcher. Stop trying to lead the world in runs, and try to balance the team.

but who?

but who?

I would've said Miguel Montero, but the DBacks locked him up long term. I can't remember who I read, but Jose Molina and Russell Martin are 2 of the best catchers in terms of cERA and runs saved. Baseballprospectus.com has a good article on it.

Buster Olney reported on Baseball Tonight that if the Marlins decide to sell (which, based on the Sanchez/Infante trade and the HanRam/Bell offer, it's safe to say they have), that nobody is safe and they'll be willing to part with everyone, including Josh Johnson and Mike Stanton.

I couldn't believe it either. But Olney is plugged in as well as anyone.

I really don't buy it, they need a franchise player to sell tickets and he's becoming that guy.

I'd throw Barnes' date=' Bradley, and Ellsbury at Stanton and see what happens.[/quote']

You'd probably have Stanton in RF for a while then.

And I wouldn't be opposed to that trade. That's how good Stanton is.

Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Jacoby Ellsbury........yup, a ton of big names out there available for teams making a run.

multi year elite pitcher? Guess he wouldn't solidify the rotation.

Oh, you still think they have a shot this year LOL!!

Sell.

Yeah, the Yankees got Ichiro--so the Sox better get somebody.

One of those pundits on MLB TV said tonite the Yankees "likely" will be World champions again.

He didn't mention that the Yankees are an aging team who have been flaming out in the playoffs lately.

And they just got older. And don't have Rivera to fall back on this year.

It's tough to get that NY-based network media to say anything bad about the Yankees.

Having said that, the Red Sox are in much worse shape. Henry is in a real pickle.

I'd like to see Crawford and Beckett go to Miami for Johnson and Hanley. And whatever filler to even salaries.

Cherington needs to become aggressive--if that's possible. Time for Lucchino to step in.

He is signed through next year....and they would be selling low due to his performance this year. Why would they deal him?

They're pretty much having a fire sale.

Yes. I know how long his deal runs. That's why I said multi year. Not only that, but you will get draft picks back.

From Ken Rosenthal: For those who missed it: #Marlins’ trade likely to be first of several. Team wants to change mix, eventually put better club on field.
