How can you talk like this about the guy who was fastest to 200 saves?

It is a lost cause trying to talk logical baseball with these clowns.

If you wanna play "moneyball" go be a damn Oakland fan... Truth of matter is, papelbon is one of the elite closers in baseball, without him we have no closer , we throw money at lackey, who's never been an elite pitcher, throw money at gonzo, throw money at Crawford.... But a guy who we groomed and has been the faster to 200 svs ( that means something?? Even if you think it doesn't ) then we decide to get cheap

That heart in your throat drama ended up in a sox win 89% of the time. Aceves thus far is at 50%

Dude, go enjoy your win over the Rangers on a Yankee board, stop hating.

We could argue this all day.

You can say they shouldnt overpay because of the mistakes theyve made.

I can say that previous mistakes should not limit what they spend in the future. You still have to make this team competitive.

We agree about making it competitive. I just think they should have traded for a SP like Garza, and then move Bard to the closer.

But regardless, this all snuck up on them because they got a proven closer in Bailey. He should have been the closer and we wouldn't be having this discussion. It was a stupid, freak injury that crushed this team.

Signing Papelbon was a desperation move for the Phillies. They've depleted their farm in big trades, and have overextended their payroll. They want a championship, and their window is closing. So, they filled their biggest hole with the best guy available... even if it will cripple their team in years to come, and probably prevent them from resigning Cole Hamels.

Seriously, if you have to chose between Hamels and Papelbon, is it any contest?

The way I see this Pal, is that he just made 12 M last season and he will make the same the next four years (regardless the value of the market will increase), and I do not see any sign on him that could tell me that he will fail. He is not injury prone. He has the numbers in his belt. He is still young but mature. He wins games. etc, etc.

I know that we will never see this eye to eye but I wouldn't blame the Phillis.

I actually think a big part of it was the FO's pride and Papelbon's big effing mouth.

Yeah, because you have contributed so much to this board in your time here.

Who the f*** are you to make generalizations?

I could agree with that.

My problem was that they did nothing to address the rotation and lost Bard and Paps from the pen.

NZ: Jacko is cool here. He is not an obnoxious Yankee fan, just a Yankee fan.

Are there Cody Ross haters?

Well, I have been saying Cody is going to be clutch this year since game 1...and as we know that didn't really happen. He has been striking out, and making errors defensively for the most part...So people on here were saying he's s*** and sort of giving it to me for blowing smoke up his ass as much as I did when it was unfounded anticipation at that point.

Cody was clutch tonight.

Salaries always increase, never decrease.

There will always be somebody down the road who sets a new record for salary. If it wasnt Papelbon, it will be the next flavor of the month who gets overpaid.

For that kind of money, I'd take Mark Buerhle over Papelbon every time. Every single time.

I now totally ignore yankoff fans on Red Sox boards.

And I just signed up on the Cody Ross bandwagon.

My sig is of the opinion of alot of people actually.... Just do me one favor' date=' and google pedro's 1999 stats and tell me he shouldn't of been MVP.... I shouldn't have to explain, but my sig is more geared towards Pedro NOT winning the MVP more than ells not winning ......[/quote']

I am of the belief that Pedro deserved it in 1999 but to compare stats over different seasons is just lunacy. You can't say this guy deserved it in this year because this guy had won it this year with worse stats.

Ok, well just like SFFS.....I could have lived with that as well.

The problem is, none of that happened.

This is nice in a world of endless money supply.

Papelbon was most likely overpaid. Futhermore, he didn't want to be here. Did you see how fast he left town when the season was over? Never gave the Sox a chance to match the Phillies offer. He wanted out.

Pumps, how many times have we seen the true colors of yankoff fans that just HAVE to cheer for their teams on Sox boards. There is something inherently wrong with it no matter how coy they are about it.

There were so many other people to blame that I really didn't see much criticism of Ross. He's a very good role player.

Pedro should have won the MVP strictly based on saying twice on-record in an interview (for which he was told WOULD BE A KIDS BOOK) that he wanted "to f***" Sandra Bullock.

Finally, after the interviewer told him to tone it down and have more of an an acceptable answer to the question (What is one thing you have always dreamed of, or something), he replied "I would really like to sleep with Sandra Bulluck...Very much"

Papelbon's stats had been just so unimpressive over the last three years. I don't blame them for the trade though. It makes sense, but if they fail to resign Hamels, it'll tell you everything you need to know about the Papelbon contract.

Arite arite, I'm still getting over the nonsense from that other Yankee fan on here winding s*** when our pen imploded vs them the other day.

Jacko sucks sometimes.....but for the most part he is fine.

He knows his baseball.

Its the other idiots who sign up to troll during sox/yankees.

My point is, for yrs every says pitchers shouldn't win the MVP .... People even left Pedro off the ballot, now everyone is on the verlander bandwagon.... Maybe I didn't word it good enough for you... Doesnt matter, if it bothers you that much I'll change the wording more to your liking

You said it best when I was arguing with people about him...You suggested that Cody is a player who will be more streaky than consistent...So, we have to take his K's and rough-times along with those hot streaks/clutch at bats that will happen along the way

I don't mind them Brennan, unless they rub our noses in some of the dung our team creates from time to time.

Besides, it makes them easier to find once we beat their sorry asses. Remember 04? How convenient was that to have them right at our fingertips...

I haven't seen any obnoxious fans of other clubs here yet. Maybe some of the posters who have been here longer have seen them.

You need to update your sig. Papelbon has 5 saves.
