Salaries always increase, never decrease.

There will always be somebody down the road who sets a new record for salary. If it wasnt Papelbon, it will be the next flavor of the month who gets overpaid.

And who better to help set that record than the Boston Red Sox, who already have millions and millions of mistake dollars on their books.

So are you admitting he was overpaid?

Are you suggesting that you know more than Phillis FO?

Signing Papelbon was a desperation move for the Phillies. They've depleted their farm in big trades, and have overextended their payroll. They want a championship, and their window is closing. So, they filled their biggest hole with the best guy available... even if it will cripple their team in years to come, and probably prevent them from resigning Cole Hamels.

Seriously, if you have to chose between Hamels and Papelbon, is it any contest?

My sig is of the opinion of alot of people actually.... Just do me one favor, and google pedro's 1999 stats and tell me he shouldn't of been MVP.... I shouldn't have to explain, but my sig is more geared towards Pedro NOT winning the MVP more than ells not winning ......

Forget it Aceves' date=' you'll never match the heart in your throat 9th inning drama that Paps laid on us.[/quote']

That heart in your throat drama ended up in a sox win 89% of the time. Aceves thus far is at 50%

How can you talk like this about the guy who was fastest to 200 saves?

It is a lost cause trying to talk logical baseball with these clowns.

Hallelulah!

If all it takes for this team to win is for me to leave the game and walk the dog I will be walking marathons with her.

Gotta look and see what happened...heard Bard got into the game.

We could argue this all day.

You can say they shouldnt overpay because of the mistakes theyve made.

I can say that previous mistakes should not limit what they spend in the future. You still have to make this team competitive.

Well at least it was win. Grinding away against the Twins is likely not what this team had in mind when it started ST. But at least it was a win.

Beckett has been the best of the top 3 in the rotation. A good start out of him tomorrow should net another win.

Good game guys! What's up Cody Ross haters? ;p

Great job minus a rough 4th inning - I think we did well - NESN commentators made a good point that Aceves over throws now in this closing role, which straightens out his pitches that used to have much more effective/nasty movement. If he can chill out and stop over-throwing, he may be more effective as a closer in general.

He was insane in 99. I forget how many wins he had by the time he pitched in the All Star game but it was outrageous.

I'll take it. We will need a closer though. Aceves is to valuable in roles he is actually good at.

Hey Brennan...I agree. Aceves has said that he is not comfortable in that role, and while that doesn't mean he gets what he wants, it should be taken into account IMO. Bard is the logical choice, but they aren't going to do it. He is starting on Friday.

Yessssssss. We needed that.

In a perfect world: Dice-K would get healthy and pitch well enough to start, Aceves would go back to the long-relief guy, Bard to set-up and Bailey would stay healthy and be closing.
