Well this could go a couple ways now......they lose another heartbreaker late at the hands of the bullpen and deflate even further, or they pull out a good win, feel warm and fuzzy, and gain some momentum. What's it gonna be?

GOGOGO!!!

Can't break an already broken heart.

A lot of us are expecting to lose these games late, and feel nothing when it happens.

That's fine. I agree.

But you can't say "We should have signed Papelbon" because we didn't have the cash to sign Papelbon.

They salary dumped their SS and saved 6M dollars and did nothing with that money......it never should have gotten to the point of losing him.

Not sure about the other signings preventing the Paps signing. I am more inclined to the view that they simply were not going to sign a closer to that many years under contract. I think they might have even given him a little more money per than the Phillies gave him but would not have gone for that many years to a closer.

I do think the bad signings, preventing some more general FA activity this year.

They signed Cody Ross and have said multiple times that they are freeing up money for an in-season move.

You're trying to tell me that there were teams who were going to take on 1/3 of a pitchers salary who just had TJ Surgery??

There was a zero percent chance that this team dealt Lackey this year. None.

From what I gathered through "rumors" which, when there's enough of them they hold some weight, that the padres were interested.... Im pretty sure it was the padres....

How was that ruled a triple because that should not have been any more than a single. That should be a 2 base error on Sweeney.

Umps and scorers HATE the Sox. Don't tell me no one noticed.

I'm not sure if this is about "have" or "want".

SFFS....

Im not saying Bard cant close FWIW. I just think his purpose is best served setting up Papelbon.

Everyone took him for granted and essentially said he was washed up/not worth it. Hed look pretty damn good back there today....

No chance. His TJ surgery was announced on 10/25/2011. He would have never passed a physical first off, and second off, the Padre's would have only eaten about $2mm of his salary, which would have done nothing.

That was a lousy call at third. It almost looked from the way he made the safe sign that he was committed to calling the guy safe and then simply could not convince himself to take it back.

Uncle Bud really needs to do something about these cruds. Ump crews seem to have fallen completely apart.

Signing Paps was not the answer. He blew hard down the stretch last year and the phillies gave him ridiculous money for the length of that contract.

For when?

For when they are 20 games under .500 and 30 games out of 1st place?

They all sucked down the stretch.

Every single one of them.

This guy is right. NO team in baseball was taking on a trade of Lackey absolutely 0 chance with the contract and the TJ surgery.

Yes. Because before the season started and when Scutaro was traded, Cherington knew that Crawford, Ellsbury, and Bailey were all going to miss significant time.

Huh! The problem isn't the hitting. Bobby should have taken Lester out. He shaould have known Lester was going to give up a four spot. BV just lost the game. He should have put Bard in.<_>We need to bludgeon. Close games we will lose. In the top of the 9th, we will finally have our four best hitters hit in the same inning.

Matching what the Phillies offer would be a contract we would regret hard in a few years.

We knew Crawford was hurt going in to spring training...and Bailey has missed 100 games over the last 2 years due to injury. Hes been hurt since the day he fell out of his moms vagina.....and you are surprised?
