Rodney threw exactly 0 strikes and somehow got a strikeout. What a piece of s*** umpire. Fire the entire union and get college umpires with no egos. That's ********.

I can understand Ross' frustration' date=' but you have to swing the bat when it is that close.[/quote']

I agree and especially when Rodney is getting all those calls.

It was not close.

That was not a strike. At all. You don't need to swing at everything 4+ inches off the plate.

I just don't understand how umpires can get away with s*** like that. There is being a homer and complaining about calls... and there is complete ********. That was complete ********.

Honestly, having seen some very individualistic views from umps regarding balls and strikes over the years, they seem to have hit a new low for inconsistency for the strike zone, one to the next this year.

That s*** to Ross was criminal

That's not the point. The ump has sucked dick all game long and was inconsistent with the strike zone. When the game is on the line, you need to go up there and swing the bat. I am not blaming Ross for that one bit. I probably would not have swung at that pitch either. In the situation that Ross was in, you have to swing the bat.

Ross could not have even reached some of those without lunging across the plate. There was exactly one of them close enough to have been worth a "protect the plate" swing.

Gotta' hand it to Shields though...he won this game....V possibly lost this game.

Ross got hosed but whatever. We dominated the series, got the season back on track and if it wasnt for running into an elite pitcher having a great day, we would've swept them. I'm very happy with this series.

Can't win with no runs.

Yes, the bats needed to do something. But, with Shields on the mound you need to manage like that one run would win it for the Rays (it did) and not wait till he walks in a run.

There is no freaking way I am putting even the slightest little bit of this on Ross. He has to show judgment of the strike zone. He can't be swinging at clear balls even if he is down 0-2. If he goes fishing for that stuff Rodney's gonna burn him and he strikes out swinging.

This is on the ump 100%. Rodney is under no obligation to swing at a pitch that was that far off the plate.

No it is not George. I am just trying to lighten the air here.

I respect you.

You should try to reciprocate.

Will have to see how our pitchers do in the next series. Rays can't hit to save their skins. Have to see how our starters do against a team with actual hitters besides Pena and Longoria.

Texas.. freaking beast of a lineup.. would be the best testament after Detroit.

I just said I wasn't blaming Ross one bit. It was a clear ball and the ump called it a strike. The point I am trying to make is that when you are in the ninth, two outs, 0-2 count, ump has been inconsistent all game, down one run, two men on base, then you have to swing the bat if it is close. The call is based on judgment. The ump thought it was a strike. We all thought it was a ball. The fact is we knew that the ump was incosistent all game long. So why not swing at a pitch like that with the game on the line? The pitch was not so horrible that he couldn't make contact with it. It was outside, but with the circumstances given, you have to swing the bat.
