Apparently, Joba dislocated his ankle somehow. In order to to that, you need to tear your deltoid ligaments and you typically also see a trimalleolar fracture. His recovery for the ankle alone will likely be 12 weeks before he can give it a go on the mound. Needless to say, this pushes him back from June into August.

What a stooge. I get he wants to play with his kid but come on use some common sense. Trampolines are very dangerous. Check out some youtube videos. I wonder if they can cut him loose like they did with Boone, save 2.5 million in the process.

And the chain of career-limiting setbacks continues for Joba. Can't say I'm disappointed with how his career has turned out, as a Red Sox fan.

From ESPN.com:

As we understand, they were at, they have these kids places where you jump on trampolines and stuff like that," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday.

Chamberlain had surgery on Thursday night at St. Joseph's Hospital, and is expected to remain in the hospital for several days for the injury, which resulted in an open flesh wound around the ankle.

Manager Joe Girardi was at the hospital early Friday morning, while Cashman planned to visit in the afternoon.

There was no timetable for Chamberlain's return, but Cashman labeled it a "significant injury." Chamberlain was already working his way back from Tommy John surgery last June.

Wasn't there a Simpsons episode with a bunch of injuries from that?

I'm 99% sure its the one where the spoof Hitchcock's Rear Window. Bart jumps on it and breaks his leg then sees what he assumes is Ned murdering his wife. Great episode and love the movie too or now that I think about it, maybe it was a pool and diving board?

It's clear what happened. Joba jumped onto on the trampoline, which promptly sagged until it touched the ground, and realizing he was far too hilariously fat to jump on a trampoline, he stepped off, which caused the trampoline to shoot back upward, launching his son hundreds of feet in the air like a white-trash NASA experiment. While running as fast as his mother in the exercise yard, he covered vast distances in an attempt to catch his child like an errant Tebow pass, and just as he hauled in the kid like Hines Ward, he tripped and fell, injuring his ankle and most likely registering at least 4.5 on the Richter Scale.

Obviously, Cashman is choosing not to reveal all of the details, lest this become an embarrassment.

It's the 1%. It's the "be like Bart" episode where the town does whatever they feel.

Hahahahahahahaha!!! I knew I would see this when I read the first post in the thread!

Great stuff!

How big does he get while he's immobilized? 350? 400?

Let's start a pool, I say 365.

I don't know ORS. I think his Mommy will find a way to send him a CARE package of Crystal Meth. How fat can he get with no teeth?

Besides, he is very near that weight now.

That is more than an open dislocation there. There are also damaged toes and loss of vascularity. Not sure if that is his picture, but if it is, then he's done for a long, long time

Doctors are pretty optimistic apparently about his recovery. They told Joba that he could theoretically be back on the mound in July if his recovery goes well. They are still waiting on the results from an MRI post stabilization to see how bad his ligaments are

Holy s*** I can't look at that. It gives me the heebie geebies (SP).

Wow. I hope he recovers with little loss of function. That's just a shame. I can't wish that on anyone.

Well, maybe my second ex-wife!

Holy motherf***ing s***. I mean, seriously...July? If that happened to me they'd probably have to amputate my foot. Half of those pictures are at an angle where it looks like the only thing holding his foot on is a little skin.

I can tell you how bad they are. Really, really bad. Really, really, really, really bad.

Well, actually, it depends. Which part of that mangled raw hamburger used to be ligaments?

Hang on, hang on, hang on.

Joba does this to his ankle, and Jackso says it's feasible that he comes back in 3 and a half months. But DiceK has TJ Surgery last May, has been making huge strides, and has physically looked great both in BP sessions and in live batting practice as well, has a target date of June 1, but he won't be back until September??

How does that make sense.

SFF, you are on high alert these days. They said he could be back on a mound by July, that doesnt mean his arm will be anywhere near ready. In all likelihood, he is out for the season. He has an outside chance of being completely ready by September, but I doubt it. The injury looks a whole lot worse than it actually is to a prime athlete who has access to medical care and rehab care that you and I don't have. I said before that if everything goes well, an ankle dislocation (open or not) is a 12-16 week rehab. 12 weeks puts us in late June, early July. Obviously, everything needs to go well. Then, he can return to his rehab from his TJS. Like I said before, he is likely out for the yr.

The reason why Joba (prior to injury) could have come back sooner was his role. DiceK is going to come back as a starter. It takes longer for starters to come back from TJS due to the stamina required to start and the depth of the arsenal needed. If Joba hadnt broken/dislocated his ankle, he'd have been able to contribute by June, even though he had his TJS later than DiceK. I do think DiceK is back, throwing for the Red Sox by June or July, I dont think you will see what he can really do until the end of the season.
