My personal opinion of him' date=' and I admit this means nothing, is that he tries too hard to be like the Boston media of old. I think once this achieved some notoriety for him, he decided that this was what he was going to be. The sports writer that fans love to hate. It keeps him on everyone's lips when talking about the Red Sox, and he rides it for all it's worth. Is he really like that personally and privately? I doubt it. It just gets him more publicity.[/quote']

He IS the Boston Media of old. Hes been trashing the Red Sox since the early 80's.

I was referring to the media of the 60-70's...Sorry I wasn't more clear.

Rays aren't better. Moore is unproven. Luke Scott and Carlos Pena aren't huge upgrades.

Tigers aren't better. They're just replacing VMart with Fielder.

How would you suggest they fill the hole in LF? Eat CC's contract? Probably a better idea to sit and wait for him to have a career average year.

The Rays are overrated thanks to the Red Sox collapse last September.

The Tigers are going to be paying one expensive DH in Fielder or Miggy this year. Nobody really expects Miggy to last at 3B. Much less Youkilis.

I would put CC in RF--he plays LF in Fenway like a caged animal. He needs some open spaces.

RF is a more dfficult position, especially at Fenway Park. CC needs stability. He doesn't need to have to learn a new position in the midst of everything else. I have heard no knowledgeable source ever recomemnd such a move now.

Exactly! CC must stay in LF. That is what he is used to at Fenway. The combo of Ross and Sweeney will be fine for us in RF. My concern for CC is not where he plays in the OF, it is that he needs to get back on track offensively.

Crawford's range and speed are not utilized in Fenway at LF. Plus, with a LHd Cfielder (Ellsbury), a LHd Rfielder is better than LF for throwing out of the corners. You don't have to pivot.

They are paying this guy $20 mill. For what? Half of it is for his speed which they left in the clubhouse last year.

When's the last time the Red Sox had a left handed throwing left fielder? I can't ever recall one--except for Ellsbury's brief disastrous attempt. There are some good reasons.

It's not going to happen.

You do make some good points, but what I am saying is that he is already used to LF at Fenway and at this point they will not change that. I agree that his speed may not be utilized to its maximum capability, but at this point they are not going have him change positions. He can use that speed on the base paths. One of the reasons they signed this guy is because he was supposed to be a big boost to our offense. Like I said, I am just concerned with him getting back on track offensively. He needs to just get on base and steal some bases this season like he is capable of.

He lacks the arm to play RF.

There will be enough pressure on Crawford when he comes back, whenever that is, and I don't think we have to burden him with learning a new position. Ross and Sweeney should be adequate in right field. I do believe a RH thrower is better suited for our left field but it is what it is.......we signed Crawford and he's a LF and that's the way it is going to be. I have always believed that he was signed because for whatever reason the team didn't think they could hold onto Jacoby Ellsbury after 2013. I thought at the time of his signing that Jason Werth might be better for our needs but he didn't exactly light the sky with dongs and RBI's last year either. I still wonder if Ells is history for us after two more seasons. There's Boras standing in the way you know.

I think they signed CC because they were embarrassed at how he stole at will against the RS. Better to have him on our side than against us......big mistake when you buy for the wrong reasons.

Yeah, that's what people say. But I wonder if his range can offset that--if it is true.

He may also not want to play RF.

I don't think they just signed him because they stole bases against us, haha. I think when they saw him play that they liked what he had to offer on the base paths, that is one of the reasons we signed him. He was a great all-around player, that is why we signed him. Who would have thought that he would do that bad in his first year here?

Yeah-- a lot of guys steal bases against the Red Sox.

Stealing wasn't a priority with Francona-Epstein, and CC's speed was underutilized. That undoubtedly will change with Valentine.

That's ridiculous if that is why you think they signed him.

Because hitting for average, for power, good defense, and speed on the bases just weren't reasons.

Yeah, and a third of the Globe readers still want to see him bat 6th. This guy is a total misfit in Boston.

After a long break, we get an interview with Lackey.....and learn about 2011 and "life according to lackey". I am shocked that he agreed to even speak to DS.....especially since he came out very poorly in the interview......nothing is his fault, life sucks ( even though he wasn't the one with cancer) and DS was just stirring up the past by asking about chickengate. It was a great early morning read.

Belichick has a sign over the doorway to the Patriots dressing room. It says basically ignore the sports media.

The Red Sox are way overexposed in the media. The open book manager selection process was a joke, and created a lot of the conflict problems they have right now.

There is no way the Red Sox could maintain the same kind of policy as the Patriots. Why ? because in baseball they play everyday. Plus the Red Sox market the team quite differently. They have to because of the economics of the two different sports. Also it is actually in the players interest in certain cases to be media friendly which isn't the same in the NFL.
