Theo' date=' in a genius of a move, canceled a Harden for Lars Anderson trade at the trading deadline due to concerns regarding his medical records. He could have come in handy down the stretch as we kept rolling Wakefield and other assorted garbage to the mound. I don't know what he could have been thinking.:dunno:[/quote']

Thinking? Thinking? Did you say thinking? Thinking and Epstein are oxymorons 700. Surprised you didn't know that.

IMO' date=' it doesn't much matter (Lester or Beckett) who starts the opener in DET. But rest assured there's no way hell they have Beckett pitch the home opener. He'll be booed off the field, and that's not the way they want to open their 100th anniversary festivities.[/quote']

Why do you think that?

I think between Duckworth' date=' Cook, Silva, and Wakefield, they really have a difficult choice as to who to pitch in the first game of the season.[/quote']

That's why they'll probably go with Haegar, since he's a knuckleballer and all.

Good point. I don't think the fan base has forgiven Beckett not so much for the behavior during the season, but more so for his NOT addressing it after the season was over, as did Lester and Clay.

The crap with BV didn't set well with me either..

I don't think it set well with many, but I also believe that many have forgotten too. If he comes out there and plays like he did in april and may, then people will likely quiet down real quick.

There's been other hints that the organization hasn't forgotten either. Tom Caron from NESN is perhaps the biggest Sox shill going, but even he has said Beckett will be walking into a hornet's nest in ST due to the "deplorable way he's handled the off-season." What that tells me is that the organization, from top to bottom, is bracing for a dicey situation when Fatboy shows up on 2/19. And like you say, it's a 100% lock that the entire opening day Fenway crowd is poised to unload on him when he's introduced with the rest of the club. To pitch him that day would be like throwing him to the lions.

Honestly, Im still not convinced Josh even makes through ST with the club. I can easily see him being stubborn enough to dig in his heels and give everyone the finger. In which case, they really might be forced to move him.

All of that remains to be seen. I do agree however that he might get unloaded on by the fans until the season gets settled in, especially if he were to pitch like he did this past April and May. However, to have carried the team so far, only to become lazy and let it break down towards the end of the year, to the point that he is giving up runs to the orioles on a regular basis, well that's unacceptable. It stands to reason that even though I said people would forget about the beer and chicken scandal, I wouldn't forget about the attitude and the laziness, and the seemingly willingness to let the O's walk all over him.

If history is any judge the beer and chicken parties will take a back seat to Fatboy's arrogance. There's nothing in his past that indicates Beckett will all of a sudden change his "Texas Tough Guy" image and issue a mea culpa about last season. I just don't see it happening. And even more concerning to everyone should be his track record of falling off dramatically the year after pitching well like he did for a large part of last year. There's a definitive pattern there that cannot be ignored.

I share Caron's view. Do you recall when he said that. I recall him saying something similar about three weeks ago. I am curious if he said this again after BV's recent visit to Texas.

I think you and I heard him say this stuff the same day---when he was filling in on D&C during the holiday break. And no, i haven't heard too much about it at all since BV's Texas trip.

Almost certainly Beckett will start on Opening Day. Not only because of his success last season, but also because he's the only pitcher that Bobby V doesn't have a fantastic relationship with.

His attitude is appalling to say the least, I wish he could be more of a standup guy like Lester. That and the fact that his pitching does drop off towards the end of every season, or you have seasons like 2010 where he is astoundingly inconsistent. I wish he could pitch like he did in April and May of this past season and just shut the f*** up otherwise. Then everyone would be happy..

I endorse this post. One thing that I have never understood about Beckett is that when he came to the Sox a big deal was made about his diligence in off-season conditioning. Yet, he always seems to tweak his back or some other ******** like J.D. Drew. There is no question that when he is on his game that he can be dominant. It's just that it does not happen with sufficient regularity anymore.

I don't give two flying f***s about his attitude if he pitches well. But when he is not performing AND he is being a dick, he is nauseating. As you have said, he should just shut the f*** up.

Theo must've thought Lars still had enough value to net a King Felix type player

And we can't forget either that little tidbit Tito let us in on on his way out the door--and how Josh (and others) tend to miss 1-2 starts per season with the ever popular "intestinal turmoil," which Tito let spill is the manager's code for 'hangover.'

It wil be interesting to see how these episodes play out with Valentine.
