What now for Ryan Madson?

Poor guy, looked like he was a shoe in for a $10m+/season multi-year contract at the start of the off season.

 

Now that the Red Sox have tied up Bailey .. who wants him? Surely the Angels can't afford him anymore.

 

Where do you reckon he'll end up?

Maybe the Cards. They need a closer and they have a lot of payroll available without Pujols.

I dont see Madson on the Cards. Motte was the balls in the playoffs and their pen looked really good in October overall. Madson might end up on a 1 yr deal in Anaheim and try the market again in 2013

So assuming Pujols and Wilson's deals are both back loaded heavily, so they still have some room for a paycheck in 2012?

They have been looking into improving their pen, and if Walden was the setup guy with Madson the closer, they'd be all set

Maybe Madson will sign for less. I think the one year deal and wait is very likely, but he'll be under heaps of pressure to perform again (which isn't a bad thing)

 

Can't see the Angels signing him for 10m though. And hard to see Scott Boras settling for less!

That isn't their style. They like to get mediocre guys in their mid 30s, make them look like Rivera, and move on the next year He is too established for their tastes!
