Cabrera for Sanchez

The KC Royals traded Melky Cabrera to the Giants today for Jonathan Sanchez. I think that seriously hurts any chance we had to trade for Lincecum or Cain.

Good point, I hadn't considered Beltran, and we still match up well with the A's.

I think the Royals came out better in that trade. Giants are gambling that a very inconsistent player becomes consistent. Royals are taking a high risk, high reward move trading up for a power lefty starter, and if it pays off it gets them a lot closer to where they want to be.

 

I know Sanchez had a down year this year and Melky had a career campaign but I'm really surpsized that Sanchez would only cost Cabrera. The Giants may know something the rest of us don't.

The Giants also dealt them a minor leaguer. Cabrera was one of the best CFers in the AL last yr, behind only Grandy and Ells. And he's entering his prime at 27 yrs old. Throw in 20 steals, 18HR, 40+ doubles and a .300+AVG and you have a dynamic switch hitting CFer who can be a leadoff hitter. It's a classic case of sell high and buy low. Sanchez is coming off a terrible season and Melky is coming off an all star season.
