I know given the current calamity down Yawkey Way, talking about uniforms might seem ill-timed, but I figure, why the poop not?

Anyone else not like the current away jerseys?

The W.S. era ones were nice, with the red lettering, the stylized numbers and name font, as well as the trim on the sleeves.

These new ones are too close to the 80's style for my liking. Very bland.

Also, whenever I see old photos of home jerseys from pre-1970's, they have two stripes on the ends of the sleeves, and two stripes running down the front, not the one we have now.

Looks much sharper, IMO.

What are your thoughts?

I always liked the 80's ones. I wish these newer ones were a direct copy of them, with the blockish letters. The font on these doesn't look right in solid blue. And I wish they'd get rid of those awful blue away jerseys. They look like terrible spring training jerseys or some expansion team.

Also bring back the old school V-neck shirts from back in the day too

The Red Sox are a backward organization in some ways.

To take an example, they are one of the most recognized national teams in sports.

You see Red Sox caps and jerseys when they play on the road in the stands of almost every ballpark.

Yet, they continue to use those drab ancient gray road jerseys with "Boston" across the chest.

How dull. Why not "Red Sox" across the chest? This is a nationally recognized team!

Get with it, ownership. Other teams like the Phillies have.

There is nothing that turns me off more than to have some network announcer say "Boston vs the Yankees". That sucks.

I, too, prefer the 1980's road uniform, which was a copy of the road uniform worn from the 1930's until the change to those hideous double-knit uniforms featuring pull-over shirts and beltless pants in the early 1970's. Man, what were they thinking? I've always been a traditionalist (as my avatar attests), and have no love for the home/road alternate jerseys, either. I could also do without names on the back of the road jerseys. If you are a true fan, you don't need a program to know who the players are.

One thing I never liked about the Boston uniforms are that they are so plain, I wouldn't mind much, but wouldn't it be awesome if we could have throwback days where we wear stuff like this?

The away gray uniform should be as it is now, but the letters should be more plain and simple as they were in the Jim Rice days. The away uniform generally has the name of the city in front.

The home white uniform should always be the same. The only teams that constantly change the design of uniforms are team with no history or tradition.

Imagine if the Yankees did away with the pin stripe uniform or the design of the "NY". It would never be right.

Colorful new uniforms only work for newer teams with no history or tradition.

Bring back the red stockinsg for all players.

^That.

Look at all the teams with history, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals, all of them have had the same uniform for years.

Exactly.

If it works dont change it.

I never understood why teams change their unis so often. Once you fall into changing a trend you'll find yourself changing it most often then not.

As for the red stockings, isn't that up to the players? Ian Kinsler sports high sox even though his other teammates wear the regular ones.

Memo to the front office: IT IS TIME TO GET OUR MOJO BACK.

Go back to the road reds. They were classic, simple, and elegant. It makes no sense at all that there is so little actual red in the Red Sox road jerseys right now,.

Why do they change so often? Changing jersey's forces many fans to go out buy another jersey. "I have to go out and get a new jersey so I can be in step with the team." Gotta' keep those Henry bucks flowing.

In the old days ALL players used stockings. So stockings would be more traditional than long pants all the way down to the shoes.

I like the idea of having an extremely plain gray away uniform with the red stockings.

When I said I don't like the plainness, I was talking more about the Road uniforms, I love the home ones. Bring these ones back!

I have always loved the Red Sox uniforms' date=' but hated the hats of 1975 through 1978 like the Luis Tiant is wearing in my avatar.[/quote']

The whole world went wacky in the 70's, lol.

These are just a modern-day rehash of those ugly double knit jobs of the 1970's. Teddy Ballgame and Yaz wouldn't be caught dead wearing them.
