Russell Martin on facing the #RedSox this weekend: "Anything to get the Red Sox out would be awesome for me. ... I'd love to see them lose."

Hope you don't mind your back knee getting broken by a cutter.

It sounds like he'll be a big help against Tampa in the final series.

Russell is an unprofessional *******.

In a few years, he may find himself out of the Yankees because we all know many people dont last on that organization that's not top notch player and Russel ain't it.

That coment that he made will come back around to get him in the end. It always does.

Rusell Martin is a little bitch or any Yankees player for that matter.

I'd love to get my hands on that **** and strangle him.

If the Sox lose the 1st 2 games then they need to just go out in game 3 and fight the whole team. Possibly hurt a few of them. I'd love to see a slugfest between both teams because they'd get rocked. Can they make this like a ppv? It'd make billions guaranteed.

did anyone else think something was a little fishy last night in the yanks/rays game? i don't know, but it seemed like they were either "throwing" the game, or they didn't give a s*** at all. those errors last night were pretty awful. almost blatant. i think the yankees fear us if they do have to play us in the post season..... spanking their asses in the beginning of the season might be on the back of their minds. anyone else feel like that last night?

Baltimore is really becoming a pain in my ass. lets get a win tonight, HOPEFULLY carry that momentum into tomorrows game, and get back on track. we can play dominant baseball, i've seen us do it! there needs to be a team meeting somewhere and these boys need to get to business. forget about what has ahappened this month and go out there and play ball. clean slate. treat it as a 6 game season, because at this point, that's what it is!

Obviously every game from here on out is critical, but realistically tonight is bigger than Saturday or Sunday. We need to win at least 2 of 3 this weekend. Lester is our ace. He has to give us a win, because winning both Saturday and Sunday with Wakefield and TBA pitching is a huge longshot.

Interesting comment by Martin. Could be he wanted to join them originally when they were "red-hot in the media" pre-season, but got rebuffed when they decided to go with Salty. That might explain his instant dislike of the Red Sox, which is not shared by other Yankee players who have fought a few wars with them.

Fortunately, John Farrell is at the helm for the Blue Jays, so I'm sure he'll play hard against the Jays.

I like Morrow and Romero vs TB. A lot, actually. They both give TB fits.

Morrow vs Price, to me, is a toss up. It all depends on Morrow. He can either be lights out, or he can be awful. He's got a career 2.37 ERA at the Trop, and a 1.42 ERA there in 2011. Price, meanwhile, has a 2.08 ERA vs TOR this year. Toss up.

Romero vs Niemman heavily favors the Blue Jays tomorrow (Niemman 5.23 ERA vs TOR in 2011, Romero 2.25 ERA vs TB in 2011, 1.13 ERA at the Trop)

Wade Davis (4.91 ERA vs TOR) going up against Brett Cecil (4.50 ERA vs Rays) is also a toss up IMO.

So, if you give one toss up to each team, the Jays could, and almost should, take 2/3 from TB. Big win for them last night, hopefully they can carry that momentum into St Pete.

Our hopes do lie with Toronto to help keep us ahead of the Rays this weekend. Farrell will play his horses.

BTW: Memo to Tito: Stop trying to lengthen your lineup. You don't strengthen your lineup by trying to lengthen it. You weaken the whole lineup by doing that. I don't care how Aviles is hitting right now. He should not be batting 2nd. If we get offense from him, it is gravy, but he is a bottom third of the lineup guy. Bunch the best hitters at the top which gives you the best shot for an inning or two where they can bunch together some hits and put up a crooked number. Our best 6 hitters are: Ellsbury, Pedroia, AGon, Ortiz, Crawford and Scutaro. They need to be bunched right at the top of the order. Feel free to change around the order, but those guys must occupy the top six solots-- no ifs and or buts. You don't go on a hunch or a matchup right now. You go with the best hitters. Period.

Assume we split the next two games, and TB wins the next two, so they're 1 back on Sunday.

Do you give Aceves/Buchholz the start on Sunday? I absolutely do. Even if Ace goes 5 IP, Buch for 2 IP, you absolutely CANNOT start Lackey. No chance.

I don't know why anyone would want to mess with the lineup at all for the rest of the season.

Ellsbury, Pedroia, AGon, Ortiz, Crawford, Scutaro, Salty, Reddick, Aviles need to play every game for the rest of the season. The bench beyond those guys are absolutely attrocious, and Youkilis should rest till the postseason. Give Varitek one more start for Beckett, but no starts beyond that.

Exactly. God, everytime Varitek comes to the plate, I am just praying he doesn't ground into a double play. Even with the bases empty.

Tonight's game doesn't look promising.

Raining non-stop right now and its supposed to rain tonight until the AMs.

Interesting take, I wonder if this is the underlying reason

A rain out is probably in the Sox best interests. If the Yankees have to play a double header this weekend, they will rest players and not play them in both games.

Here are the lineups:

RED SOX (88-68)

Ellsbury CF

Pedroia, 2B

Gonzalz 1B

Ortiz DH

Aviles 3B

Crawford LF

Scutaro SS

Saltalamacchia C

Reddick RF

Pitching: LHP Jon Lester (15-8, 3.15)

YANKEES (95-61)

Jeter SS

Granderson CF

Teixeira 1B

Rodriguez 3B

Cano 2B

Swisher RF

Jones LF

Montero DH

Martin C

Pitching: RHP Freddy Garcia (11-8, 3.77)

Game time: 7:05 p.m.

TV/Radio: NESN, YES / WEEI, WCBS

I can't believe that Tito is batting 5th Aviles behind Ortiz in an effort to extend the lineup. You bat your best hitters together at the top of the lineup. Aviles has hit well for us, but he is a utility player. He should be batting after Crawford and Scutaro.

Posted

Considering Ellsbury hits .289 with a .355 OBP vs LHP, and Gonzalez is hitting .316 with a .381 OBP vs LHP, I really thought Francona would go Ells - Craw - Gonzo - Pedroia - Ortiz.

Crawford is the only one with poor splits vs LHP. The others have great numbers vs LHP, so throwing a LHP out of the pen vs those guys would be worthless. Crawford is 9 for his last 16. Small sample size? Sure. But this team is 5-16 in September. Sometimes you have to roll the dice, and you never know if his speed at the top of the lineup could impact the game, be it in giving Gonzalez a mistake pitch, or scoring from first with 2 outs.

Either way, it seems like it's the right play for this situation

I am so sick of media all over our ass.

This series right here we need to make a statement. Not because I hate the Yankees but because this could probably break us. I'd rather lose the wild card to a s*** team like the Orioles then Yankees any day. I can't have those pigs getting the satisfaction of playing golf come playoff time. Not only do we need to beat them, they need to get DESTROYED. Make Martin look like a bitch because if they win they'll be talking s*** for a while and I will not be happy. Don't just win 2 games, sweep those bastards. I hate that we have Wakefield tomorrow and Lackey on Sunday but this offense needs to look like they're number 1 in the mlb. As a matter of fact stop looking like the Sox from April and look like that dominant team in July. Lester needs to tighten up too because he hasn't looked like an ace at all lately. All or nothing right here. Make a statement, beat the living hell out of the Yankees, and take that wildcard.

Listen Gentlemen.

Let's close the remain 6 games with victories. If we achieve that (complicated but I still got slightly faith) this team could come back form hell as the Phoenix bird and win it all.

LETS GO RED SOX!

The coffee is in i am now ready to stay up late over here in England and watch us kick the living s*** out of them lot
