Wow, the video that they just showed on YES did not look good. Rivera's knee buckled and he landed awkwardly, and he was in severe pain.

Uh. Oh.

Could be season ending if it's anything related to the knee (MCL/ACL)

Just a sore lat after his 126 pitch outing in Chicago. Shouldn't miss more than his next start.

Oks. Well, let's hope he returns soon and healthy, this team is already a hospital again.

This might be too soon but it looks like scm's sig applies to the Yankees now too.

He is probably going on the DL. Heard it from the A's announcers last night.

Also, as much as I hate the Yankmees, I cannot wish for anything but good luck to Mo. He is a class act.

Could be career ending if it is a serious injury.

The A's announcers? Seriously dude? Come on, that's just laughable.

FYI:

Mariano Rivera, who has hinted this will be his last season as New York Yankees closer, was carted off the field before Thursday night's game after suffering a right knee injury during batting practice in Kansas City.

Rivera was going back on a fly ball during batting practice when his right knee buckled on the Kauffman Stadium warning track. He was helped to his feet by manager Joe Girardi, who sprinted to the outfield, and bullpen coach Mike Harkey. Rivera, 42, was taken by cart off the field.

Rivera's 608 saves are the most in baseball history. This spring, he intimated that he had made up his mind on whether 2012 would be his last season, but was not prepared to reveal his decision.

Rivera was last on the disabled list in 2003, when he began the year on the DL with a groin strain. He has been remarkably durable, relying largely on his cut fastball to make at least 60 appearances in 14 seasons, also a major league record.

I also believed it was true before I heard it from them.

Dude. Didn't you know that the A's announcers have more credibility than Valentine, who said he fully expects Beckett to make the following start?

And that means it is?

Watching Buchholz throw, it looks like he's holding back a little.

I was watching the Yankees pregame today and Rivera hurt his knee.

So that confirmed it. Buchholz is holding back.

The logic here is groundbreaking. Bravo, sir.

I guess only time will tell.

I will say this: I don't trust any information the Red Sox put out there, and I don't trust their medical staff. With their history you have to maintain a healthy level of skepticism.

How many times to people have to tell you this??

The medical staff was replaced last offseason.

At least I know the A's announcers have no motive to lie. The manager and the GM on the other hand................

Its my understanding that the head of the medical staff was replaced, but not the other guys. Furthermore, they still use the same hospital, I believe. If that is true, I can say that within the same hospital most doctors practice a similar style of medicine. If you know that part of this is not true, let me know. I still won't trust them until they EARN my trust, but I am always ready to learn the truth about the facts.

Here you go Forsythe. They did not clean house as they should have done:

BOSTON -- After two seasons in which the Red Sox experienced health issues throughout the stretch run, there was a determination from the organization to make its medical staff run more efficiently.

With that in mind, the Sox unveiled their realigned medical staff for 2012 on Thursday. The staff will no longer include a medical director, the position Dr. Tom Gill held for the last seven seasons.

Instead, the Red Sox have installed a team of seasoned doctors.

Larry Ronan will continue as the Sox's head team internist, a position he has held since 2005. Peter Asnis has been promoted to head team orthopedist after serving as a Red Sox team physician since 2005. Asnis is the head physician for the Boston Bruins and also works for the New England Patriots.

Well if that's the case, I'm happy with it. I'm not sure it would have been possible to replace every member of the medical staff, and I'm sure they replaced quite a few of the lower level employees.

It's a step in the right direction, that's for sure.

Maybe, but with the same doctors in different positions it does not engender a great deal of trust on my part. I am particularly concerned that the team doctor is now the head orthopedist. I think they should have cleaned house. There are so many great doctors in Boston; no need to settle for the guys that screwed up before with them. I hope it works out, but they are going to have to EARN my trust.

Rivera is likely done for the season...and for his career.

By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff

I don't remember the year, but I remember it was in Minnesota at the Metrodome.

As was his daily custom, Mariano Rivera was shagging flies in the outfield during batting practice. Running from gap to gap, he looked like a major league outfielder, not a relief pitcher.

Alex Rodriguez was in the cage and three times in a row he drove balls to the wall in center field and three times in a row Rivera made unbelievable catches, leaping up and grabbing the ball before it cleared the fence.

The third catch was as good as any you would ever see and A-Rod laughed out loud. As he walked out of the cage, he gave Mariano a "I'm not worthy" bow with both hands. You could see Rivera's smile from there.

Some pitchers get their conditioning work in on a treadmill or by running from foul pole to foul pole. Mariano shags flies, always has. It must work, too. The man hasn't been on the disabled list since 2003.

Rivera later told a few of the beat writers that he hoped to play the outfield for at least one inning before he retired but knew that was impossible because of the risk of injury and his immense value as a pitcher.

Now we learn tonight that Rivera injured his right knee while trying to make a leaping catch in the outfield during batting practice in Kansas City. He has a torn ACL and is done for the season.

Obviously this is major news in baseball and particularly for the AL East. It's hard to imagine the Yankees without Rivera.

Plenty of people hate the Yankees, but Rivera has earned respect even in Boston. He transcends the rivalry in a way few have.

Rivera is one of the best people in baseball and is nearing the end of a remarkable career, having hinted in spring training that he planned to retire. He deserves to go out throwing that cutter, not on the disabled list.

Here's hoping we get to see to see him pitch again.

Excellent quote.... even though i hate the uniform he wears one of the very few guys i respect and admire.

Well, injuries aren't confined to the Red Sox. Even the Yankees get them.

Steinbrenner must have broken a few chairs in his office today. But he was the guy who wanted to pay Soriano $13 mil a year to set up. Now he gets his moneys' worth.

Maybe they will move Soriano to starter? No. That's the Red Sox and Bard.

They replaced the head of the front office, too. But everybody else stayed...unfortunately.

It is frustrating to see the Yanks with multiple options to choose from here. They lose the god of closing and now get to pick from two guys that could really turn out quite good regardless of which one they pick......Arghhhhhhhhh

Well, we at least can say that we all got to see the greatest closer of all time but unfortunately had to be on the wrong end of it. I hate the skanks as much as the next guy but I tip my cap to Mariano. Good luck winning those nail biters now skanks.
