The 59 year old Summit was diagnosed with early onset dimentia, Alzheimer's type. She will continue to coach the Tennessee women's basketball team for her 38th year, and doesn't plan on retiring soon. She leads all of NCAA men or women with 1,071 wins and is only behind John Wooden for most national championships with 8.

I'm sorry to hear of your illness' date=' VA.[/quote']

Be-atch!! Pat's got 13 years on my old ass.

Very sad news. Great coach. Horrible disease at any age.

I came in here to say something' date=' but I forgot what it was.[/quote']

I'm sorry, but I don't find this very funny. My mom had lymphatic brain tumors and I've lost a grandparent and an uncle and am losing another uncle and an aunt to Alzheimers.

Would you find it funny if your family members have been affected by memory loss? How about visiting your mother in the hospital, who probably forgot you were there every time you got up to go use the bathroom? Would you find it funny then? Somehow, I don't think so.

I once went to visit my grandfather before he died, only to have him ask who I was. He didn't even know I existed, yet he had told my mother a time before then about how much he loved me and all that.

Despite that horrible experience, I still laughed at Youk's post.

I'm not going to let my experience affect what others say. It's a joke, and only that and I understand that. Some people have a deeper sense of humor. They shouldn't be censored.

I agree with BornToRun. If you poke fun at something you can't poke fun at anything. I make jokes about dead people and other screwed up stuff, usually spur of the moment and afterward I feel bad but I always remember that everyone lives, everyone dies, everyone experiences messed up things and that is inescapable, so why not find a way to make it funny instead of dreadful?

I had this same experience, my grandma forgets who I am now, she didn't remember how I was related to her, it was one of the saddest things I've ever heard when she asked me "what am I to you?".

What is?:dunno:

What do you think? The flu? What is this topic about? Alzheimer's is a sad disease without a cure.

Doctor tells the patient: I have bad news and worse news. First you have cancer. Patient: Oh my god that is terrible!

Doctor: Even worse, you have advanced Alzheimers Disease.

Patient: Thank god I don't have cancer

The grandmother I was closest to died from Alzheimers, and I laughed at the jokes.

Since we are having fun, I feel it necessary to share this. In poor taste? Yes. Funny? Absolutely.

ORS, that is pretty funny. :D

BTW, my mother in law who has dementia said to my wife the other day. "What's this on the news about an earthquake that is coming?"
