Every single swing that Crawford takes looks like an 0-2 protective, defensive swing. It's like he's scared to try to drive the ball. His confidence has got to be at an absolute all time low right now, and it's showing up in his swing big time.

I work three on / three off so I got lucky with these day games. But yeah I see what you mean for most people.

Yup, but he's already making his 20 MUSD. I hope that he wakes up at least in the playoffs and begins performing like a 20 MUSD player till the end of his contract.

Really it was only one bad month. It's kind of like a reverse Ubaldo Jimenez thing going on here. Ubaldo was unreal for two months and then more or less average from June 2010 through his trade recently. He's been somewhat bad for the Guardians, but its a new team, write it off I guess. All of his perceived value comes from two months of pitching. Prior to 2010 he was solid, but certainly not an ace. Carl is the opposite. He's been pretty damn good his whole career and came over here and had easily the worst month of his career. Since then he's been playing close to his career averages and yet everyone in Boston thinks he sucks.

Why is there a cut off? His whole season is a disaster.

 

Because we're evaluating what Crawford is going to be for the next six years. Yes, the first month of the season happened, and it counts towards this season, but he's shown since May 1st that he can hit to the level he did while in Tampa. Players need time to adjust when moving to new teams, it happens. Look at Beckett's first season here.

thats awfull for a 20 MIL a year player

 

Crawford hasent just stunk in the first month, he's sucked all year

Actually, he's not far off his career averages in terms of walks. His career OBP is .334 and career BA is .293. OBP is usually ~40 points higher than BA for him. Right now he's hitting .251 and his OBP is .287. Miserable season numbers, but the problem is not his approach. He's doing what he's always done, with one horrendous month of april weighing his season averages down. He will never have AB's like Pedroia, Youk, and A-gon. Never. Most of the people who had a problem with the signing cited his approach. He'll never be an OBP guy, but he should hit the ball at a .285+ clip. He's hitting .285 since May 1st.

 

He's not worth the money, but he's not doing that terribly. We're a better team with him.

It's either his elbow or his vagina. Not sure yet. Doing an MRI after the game.
