Sadly, he is definetly out. Surprised the Umpire didnt call him out BECAUSE of the great throw from Ichiro. They seem to do that a lot.

That' a pretty good observation from a new fan. A lot of the time an umpire will call a player out when the throw beats them but they're never tagged.

Bard never tagged him. He touched Ellsbury with the glove but the ball was in his throwing hand at the time.

Varitek is so incredibly overmatched anymore. The guy is absolutely killing us in the 2nd half. He was alright in the first half, but he's completely burnt out this season. If we really want him to be available for the post season for Beckett, it's going to have to be a 4/1 split in catching duties between him and Salty for the rest of the season.
