Upon hearing last Sunday that Erik Bedard had been traded to the Red Sox [team stats], Mark Lambert immediately recalled a conversation over dinner with the left-hander a few years ago.

“I remember him saying, ‘I like Boston. I could see myself playing there. I’m sure it would be a lot of fun,’ ” Lambert, Bedard’s former coach at Norwalk (Conn.) Community College, said by phone yesterday. “That was the first thing I thought of. It’s pretty neat that he ended up there.”

Aviles vs Masterson: 4/12

Scutaro vs Masterson: 1/12

Just sayin...I really like Aviles, and if you've got an opportunity to play someone who hits .333 against a guy we struggle to hit, why not?

Aviles is a utility player from the Royals, I.e. Nothing special.

This team will figure out Masterson eventually. He dominates righties, but gives up a .284 BA to lefties. Considering this team's lefties are Ellsbury, Agon, Ortiz, Crawford, something has to give.

He's having a down year thanks in large part to a horrible BABIP. Don't forget this guy was 4th in ROY in 2008 when he hit .325/.354./480. He had a solid season in 2010 as well, hitting .304/.335/.413.

Give him some consistent AB's and he could be a pretty solid upgrade over Scutaro.

I'm pumped to see Bedard throw. He can be ridiculous when he's healthy and throwing well. Very Cliff Lee-esque. Not overpowering, but paints, has a nice cutter, and a knee buckling breaking ball. Obviously he's nowhere near as good as Cliff Lee, but he's a similar type of pitcher.

What mixed emotions ......I am a huge sox fan. My fantasy team has both starting pitchers tonight, Pedroia, Youk, and Asdrubul Cabrera.
