Confirmed by multiple tweets from beat writers, Tony Lee, Alex Speier, and SoxProspects Mike Andrews.

From SoxProspects:

Scouting Report: 90-95 mph fastball complemented by a nice high-70s curveball and a solid-to-plus 79-83 mph changeup. Fastball comes in two-seam and four-seam varieties. Two-seamer has great late life. Attacks the zone with good command of his fastball - doesn't make a lot of mistakes with it and uses both sides of the plate. His curveball has plus potential and also has some variability to it. When he throws it arm side, it shows sweeping curveball action, but when he goes across the plate it buries more like a slider. Still, he needs to find a more consistent release point for his curveball as he develops. His changeup comes out as a straight change with the bottom falling out late. His delivery is somewhat unconventional - a little long on the back end, but his motion is smooth coming to the plate. He's shown success early on, so the organization may let him continue with his current delivery. However, his motion is very slow and he has allowed a lot of stolen bases. Projects as a late-inning impact bullpen arm, with the ceiling of a third starter.

Weiland has thrown 93 IP in AAA, going 8-6 while posting a 3.00 ERA, 9.6 K/9, and a 3.6 BB/9.

You guys do realize I'm not friends with Weiland, or know him personally. I won't be able to forward these well wishes to him. This feels more like a facebook status than a talksox thread.

Did you buy it tomorrow?

How do I buy something tommorow if i have it? I got it like a year ago. I might hold a contest and use it as a prize here.

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread.

I was joking - He's not a "rookie" until Sunday.

So we start the bus tour from Pawtucket to Fenway's mound. I hope Buchholz gets healthy quick.

And if Bcktt's injury goes bad, that bus will have more stops there. Damn! This is turning ugly, I hope that something good comes after this.

Weiland is a legitimate arm from the minors who could be helping the Sox out for years to come. He may be destined for the bullpen but I would think his potential is at least as good as Masterson's was when he arrived on stage, maybe even better as a starter. In any case, I suspect he would have been called up either way eventually this season... he's just up a bit earlier than we would hope.

I'm happy to see someone new from the farm getting the start. I like it better than seeing Aceves or Atchinson get the start. I hope he does well. But, hopefully Beckett and Buch and Lester are all going to be fine relatively quickly after the All-Star otherwise we are in for a long, long, long second-half.

Lester and Beckett's injuries aren't serious, the only one I'd worry about is Buch.
