As much as we all get on Lackey, I admit regretably that I jumped on the "he sucks" bandwagon breifly during his last start, but give him credit for going out there during this s*** and being ready single-handedly kill the Orioles. I like the guy and hope he goes out there tomorrow and kicks their sorry asses, either with a fastball to someone's ass or pitching a gem. I still have faith in you John.

In case anyone missed it, here's what Gregg had to say following the game...

All I'm going to say is that Gregg can eat s*** and die. What the f*** has he ever done? Hope Beckett is okay and Ortiz's suspension isn't too long. Kevin Gregg is a moron.

 

4 in a row and 8 of 9. Sox are on a very good run, but the injuries are piling up. All-Star break couldn't come at a better time. Win the next 2, go into the break in 1st, and get a breather.

Why? Because he swung at a 3-0 pitch? f*** that... Gregg was deliberately trying to hit him on all 3 pitches before that and he sucks so bad he couldn't even do that right. I'd take offense to it as well. If you're going to try to exact some revenge by hitting our guy, at least do it the right way... first pitch of the at bat, slow changeup right to the thigh or side of the stomach. Case closed. Guarantee if Gregg had done that, none of this would have happened.

 

Papi got the green light from Francona and he swung. Missed it enough to pop out but Gregg just had to go and run his stupid f***ing mouth instead of just turning around and being happy that he got Papi out.

 

The Orioles are a s*** organization from top to bottom. I hope we bury their asses again today.

He was intentionally thrown inside 3 times in a row, which is already ridiculous, and then called out on stupid ********. Called out on not running to 1st while he was already starting to make his way to 1st. Screw that, Gregg wants to act like an ass then he's going to get what's coming to him.

This reminds me of our bouts with the (Devil) Rays in the early 2000s; cellar dweller team, knows they're inferior, so they resort to cheap shots and bush league stuff.

 

That entire sequence of events was stupid. I can see being pissed off and wanting to take out a little frustration, especially given some of Papi's showman antics when he hits a home run, but do it right and nail him in the leg on the first pitch. When you throw three straight balls right at somebody, you're going to piss them off. At that point, both guys probably should have been ejected for leaving their spots and coming toward each other. Then the second melee never happens. And regardless of whether Papi was in the wrong for swinging 3-0 or trotting to first, Gregg should have kept his damn mouth shut after that. He was the clear instigator of the whole thing.

 

His dumb-ass comments after the game didn't help matters much either and all but guaranteed that this isn't over. It was at least nice to see guys like Lackey fired up and right in the middle of things. Hopefully he can translate that into shutting the Os down today. I wouldn't be surprised if another pitch or two 'got away' from somebody this weekend.
