Mcdonald and Lackey both are blackmailing Francoma.Thats my only guess as to why they keep playing. They got dirt on him lol

Tito is the ONLY manager I've ever seen who just leaves a pitcher in there when it's OBVIOUS that they got NOTHING. 3HR in 2 innings, hits galore, and Tito yet again waits for 7 f***ing runs to pull the guy. I've seen managers pull guys in the 2nd after giving up just1 run when they clearly don't have anything. Thats SMART. Why put yourself in a big hole when you could go to a better option?

This whole notion of "Save the bullpen, it's more important than 1 win" just doesn't make sense because those losses add up FAST. You have to give your team a chance to win. End of story. f*** YOU tito. (and Lackey of course!).

You have to be right...there is no other explanation....unless TIT-o likes boys and they are willing....

Tough loss on Independence Day. It's ironic that the Canada team won on the day of US independence. We'll get 'em tomorrow with Lester on the hill.

If he puts in the wrong guy, you'd complain, if he uses up the bullpen and they have nothing in case Lester starts to lose it, you'd complain tomorrow, if he leaves a reliever in for too long because he doesn't want to use up the entire bullpen, you'd complain.

This site produces so much hate when the Sox lose.

Pathetic isn't? Lackey gave up 2 runs in his last outing and drove in the only run.

The Jays have owned him.

You're totally right my friend, but there's people there who still saying that TF is a great manager. I'm sick about his management (McD, Drew, Lackey and the BP/Lineup-spots things). I insist, we have this W-record (which should be better) despite TF, period.

Sorry Emmz, but he is right. TF is pathetic, he has made a lot of unexplainable moves this season, that in any reasonable stat or fundament he has been doing again and again...

Trust me, this goes beyond lose or win a game and unfortunately is becoming very frustrating.

If the Sox had managed to come back the usual crapping on Tito wouldn't have happened.

Everybody has been owning Lackey, its getting ridiculous, the guy is so bad. Something needs to be done with him, we cant keep trotting him out there when we are trying to win the division against the Yankees. Lackey is extremely luck to somehow have 5 wins, and he can thank his offense for that. I really hope whenever Buchholz comes back the Sox just DL him with some phantom injury or even move him to the bullpen

Also, only problem I had with Francona today was pinch hitting McDonald for Reddick, I really dont understand what he sees in McDonald, yeah he was decent last year, but this year he has been horrendous.

In his last 8 starts (including the one good one he had vs. Philly_, he has given up 41 earned runs in 37 innings..no mater how you slice it, sugarcoat it, twist it or shove it somewhere, this guy stinks! maybe he lost it..maybe he's hurt... Bur, whatever, he may well be the worst starting pitcher in MLB (and perhaps AAA) right now! Pawtucket her he comes...anyone would be better.....

Lackey sucks so bad. We're at the half way point of the season and this guy has an ERA at around 7.5. He may be the worst train wreck that I have seen take the mound for the Red Sox in my lifetime, and I have seen some s***** pitchers. 7.5 is almost total futility. They need to DL him and get him away from Fenway. They should see what Millwood can do. He was been pitching very well in AAA. he can't be worse than Lackey. Give Millwood 2-3 starts. If he sucks, DFA him. If he is good send Lackey for surgery or shock therapy or something.

I'm glad that interleague is over and Tito is managing to the 7 run rule again. It was obvious that lackey was serving up BP. Why keep him in for 7 runs. If he pulls him after the 5th run, we still have a chance to win. You almost never climb out of an 7-0 hole. I love Tito, but I cannot defend his game strategy. He manages the game like an idiot.

D-McD needs to go. He is just a bush leaguer, but Terry has a soft spot for him. We need some DieHard Sox fans to kidnap him and hold him in a cellar until the season is over.

Agreed. why TF doesn't want to see the game plain and simple? why?....he has a great roster... then, if you lose, no big deal (you have to lose some), but you surly will win more if you go at least by the book, but he is managing this team just like you give a F1 to a 10 yo kid.

Oh really? Just the Jays...

4/2 vs TEX - 9ER in 3.2 IP

4/8 vs NYY - 6ER in 5 IP

5/5 vs LAA - 8ER in 4 IP

5/11 vs TOR - 9ER in 6.2 IP

6/22 vs SDP - 5ER in 3.1 IP

and of course

7/4 vs TOR - 7 in 2.1 IP

46% of his starts he's given up 5 or more runs.

Last year, 27% of his starts he gave up 5+ runs. That's not good...

Just for a comparison, in Beckett's trainwreck season last year, he gave up 5+ ER in 33% of his starts, close to what Lackey did last year and not even close to as bad as he is this year. Should you compare the two? Yes, the team pays them nearly the same.

Lackey has been a train wreck for the Sox so far, there's no debate. We paid him to be an Ace and he's been one of the worst starters in the majors.

Agreed and fixed.

This--->

Lackey has the highest ERA in baseball among pitchers with 60 innings at 7.47. In fact, the next highest ERA is nearly two runs lower (Fausto Carmona at 5.78). He also has the highest home ERA in all of baseball -- an astounding 9.17 -- among pitchers who have thrown 20 innings in their own park.

Sorry, but we did not pay him to be an ace. And percentages of starts with 5 ER or more given up is a very flawed way to rate a pitcher.

We paid him to be a solid pitcher, which he certainly has not been. However, he showed signs of being a somewhere a little under 4 ERA pitcher last season for significant time, and I'm not ready to say he's a lost cause at this point. He was never an ace, the people who thought he was paid to be the ace of the staff are certainly disappointed, though. Too bad he's only been a good 2nd or so quality pitcher for most of his career.

I think a good amount of the hatred towards Lackey is irrational. While it's okay to be disappointed, it's sort of odd that your expectations would be so high for him.

I also agree he needs time off, there's obviously something wrong. I'm also not saying he's not terrible this season, just some clarifications before you call me a Lackey defender.
